Monday - September 20

Start from the beginning

Julie lets out a small cough, and says, "We need to make sure everything will work and that he has done his part."

"But when will we know that?" asks Monica.

"We'll know," Julie tells her, as she and the president walk with Stevens as he pushes Dr. Parks to the elevator to take him to room forty-seven. Monica grabs Georgia's gurney and follows behind them.

Everyone enters the elevator and rides to the fourth floor in silence. When they arrive, Stevens is the first to vacate along with Dr. Parks. Julie allows the president to exit before her. Monica and Georgia remain in the elevator. Julie turns around and says to Monica, "Get her ready. Time's running out."

Monica nods her head and pushes button six. She stares at Georgia and whispers, "I hope you're not too late for all of this. I pray to God you're not."

At the entrance of the lab, Julie gives the voice command to open room forty-seven's door.

President Mansoor stands over Dr. Parks and asks Julie, "How long will he be unconscious?"

"Probably a couple of more hours, Madame President."

"And where is his wife?"

"She's in lab six. There's a team ready to begin working on her as we speak, Madame President."

The president looks at her watch and says, "It's been a busy morning. I must excuse myself for now." Turning to Julie to direct her next statement, she says, "Julie, you know how important this is. We're all aware of the time we have left to correct this. I want immediate contact when you have heard anything, or if something different has developed. Is that understood? And I do mean from everybody."

"Yes, ma'am, understood."

"Good. Then I shall wait to hear from everyone."

The president exits the room to go to a destination only she knows.

Julie looks at Stevens and says, "Let's get Dr. Parks on the bed and make him more comfortable. He's going to have a bad headache when he regains consciousness, along with being pissed off."

Stevens lifts Dr. Parks from the gurney and places him onto the bed. Unsure of what he'll do when he awakes, Julie orders Stevens to strap an arm down. Stevens grabs Dr. Parks' right arm and loops the strap around his wrist and locks it.

"Is that okay?" Stevens asks Julie.

"Good. Okay, listen up. Time's running out. If we can't get this thing turned around within the next forty-eight hours, then we're all dead, plain and simple. I need to locate Ted and tell him to go to lab six."

Julie says to Stevens, "You stay here with Parks. Under no circumstances do you leave him. Do you understand?"

"Yes, ma'am."

"Okay. I need to go to my office first and then I need to find Ted. After that, we'll be ready to move onto the next step. I will call you when that happens." Julie begins to leave the lab, but turns around and says to Stevens, "Remember. You don't leave him for a second." Stevens waves his hand and watches Julie leave the room.

Stevens lights up a smoke and throws the match on the floor. He blows smoke into Dr. Parks' face and says, "Well, you asshole, looks like things might be looking up for you." He takes a drag of his cigarette and blows out the smoke, saying, "Or maybe not." Stevens sits in the chair waiting for Julie's call.
