"We don't have forty-eight hours left, Victor." Gerald lowers his head, and Victor hopes that the answer to his next question will not have a catastrophic answer.
"How much time do we have left, Gerald?"
Gerald lifts his head, and with watery eyes, he softly says, "One day, if that. One day."
"How can that be? It's taken seven days for half of the world's population to die. Is the virus accelerating, Gerald?"
"It's passed acceleration, Victor. With the figures I just read in that notebook and checking the math, the virus is regenerating itself, and you know why."
Victor nods his head yes.
"Come on. We need to get on this, and now, or we're all dead," says Gerald.
"Okay... yeah... let's go," says Victor, as both men run to the lab.
When they reach the lab, Gerald smashes the door open and hurries over to the cooler where Georgia's body rests. Victor, breathing heavily, unlocks the cooler, and slowly pulls out the slab where Georgia's lifeless body lays.
"What the... Where is she?" yells Victor. Turning to Gerald, Victor grabs him by the throat and throws him to the ground, screaming, "You bastard, what did you do with her? Where is she?"
Gerald tries to punch Victor in the face, but Victor has him pinned, making it difficult to defend himself. Instead, Gerald starts yelling, "I don't know where she is! I was upstairs with you! Stop! I... I... don't know!"
After Victor and Gerald struggle for a few more seconds, Gerald is able to throw Victor off of him. Coughing and holding on to his now sore throat, Gerald says, "I don't know where she is, Victor. You have the key. You're the one who's been in here with her since Friday. What did you do with her?"
Victor squeezes his head with his hands, spins around, and throws his arms down, yelling, "Stevens! That dick ass took her! Come on, let's go find that son of a bitch and see what he did with her!"
Victor runs out of the lab when he collides into Stevens and bounces back against the wall. Victor begins to attack Stevens as he did with Gerald, yelling, "Where's my wife, you bastard? What have you done with her?"
Stevens reaches into his pocket, pulls out his gun, and hits Victor's head with it, knocking him out. Gerald walks out of the lab, saying to Stevens, "I'll take care of him. Did you find a way out yet?"
"Yep," replies Stevens.
"And Georgia?"
"She's fine."
"Okay. Go finish what you have to do and I'll keep Victor under control for as long as I can."
"When do you want to...," Stevens begins to ask.
"Later. I'll let you know when. Just be ready for the call. Understand?"
"Sure thing boss, anything you want," says Stevens.
"Go," orders Gerald.
Stevens walks down the hallway and disappears around the corner. Gerald goes back into the lab and gets a cool, wet cloth to place on Victor's wound. Victor begins to stir and moan.
Holding the wet poultice on Victor's head, Gerald says, "Don't get up, Victor. Stevens' pistol whipped you hard and it looks like you're getting an unpleasant lump on your head. Let the poultice do the work."
"Fluck you, Gerald," Victor tries to say sternly, but his speech is slurred and is confused from the concussion he's obtained.
"Victor, hold onto my arm, man. Let me help you," offers Gerald.
