She is His.

Walking out of the function room, the humid air wrapped me around me like a warm blanket and spying the solitary figure leaning against the balcony I felt nervous to approach him. I was dreaming, things like this always turned out to be a dream.

The stars above us had never shined so bright. Each speckle glistened like perfect little diamonds amongst the vast inky backdrop above the balcony where he stood. His shoulders were perfectly square and underneath the luxurious fabric of his suit, I had every inch of skin and muscle memorised. Strong arms, primed with youth - tanned skin from a summer spent lazing around at the and getting closer, that tiny band of silver around his ring finger. Perfection.

Getting closer, he sensed me or maybe it was the shuffle of enough white fabric to dress a small country that gave my approach away. Either way, he was just as aware of me as I was of him. He didn't move as I came up beside him, resting my head on his back I longed to shed off his layers of clothing so all I would be touching is his warm skin. Looping my arms around his waist he instead took my hands in his, pulling me around to stand in front of him. I felt so small, so vulnerable and unworthy in his company. Even now and to tell him so would only end with him scolding me for thinking like that.

"You are a vision." He whispers into my ear and closing my eyesI shiver with need. "The most beautiful she-wolf I have ever seen."

I swoon, leaning against him and just enjoy being held.

"Shall we dance?" It's not really a question and with the band playing softly from inside, we move around in perfect sync as if we had rehearsed it a hundred times or more.

"Oh Nate, tell me I’m not dreaming!" I beg as he carefully cradles me in his arm, arching me down in the finale move of our routine. Bringing me back up to face him, he smiles causing my heart to bloom with love and hope.

"You are not dreaming Sylvie, not today. You are mine, and that’s how it's always going to be, mate."

I part my lips, anxious for his kiss as he lowers his face towards mine I’m going to want so much more than just a kiss.

“Save the baby making till later! Sylvie, come throw the damn bouquet!” Fiona interrupts and I can’t help but glare at her. She only shrugs, disappearing back inside and Nate laughs softly, taking my hand we go back into the air-conditioning where a small group of our friends and adopted family enjoy our wedding reception.

In the six months since that night we returned back the pack lands, our life was normal again. Our normal. Not wolf shifting normal or what even humans would call normal. After I lost consciousness, Nate couldn’t bring himself to hurt his mother and instead restrained her so she couldn’t hurt me anymore. Harry took care of punishment and with Dean beaten by Nate after I had run off – he had no interest in taking over his brothers position as Alpha. Instead  Nate and Harry came to an arrangement that left Dean in his rightful place as Alpha – only if he so much as sneezed too loudly, Harry had the right to take over the pack territory. We haven’t spoken to Dean or her, since that night. We never will again.

After asking around, I did learn it wasn’t as simple as my Dad leaving his mate for my Mum. He had been rejected by her, so once he left – the pair of them forged their own mate bond out of choice. Nate’s Father had lost his mate in an accident of his own doing, and with both grieving it was a toxic combination. Both needed people to blame, unable to accept they were the ones at fault and that’s where I came into it. We don’t talk about it either. Sometimes I know Nate is thinking about it all, he gets this lost look about his face and as the days keep coming he does it less and less.

The excited squeals behind me have me spinning around to find Fiona and Aiden’s girlfriend whom we all suspect is something more than ‘just a girl he kinda likes’, fighting for the bouquet. Fiona isn’t quite a match for the shifter, but she gives it her all and as Liz stands up victoriously and is taken into Aiden’s arms, the look Fiona sends her way is deadly.

“Don’t be a sore loser!” I tease, nudging my maid of honour playfully and slowly a smile breaks out.

“I know, I’m over it.” She drags me to the dance floor and the party carries on. The whole time I can feel Nate’s eyes on me and looking over to where he stands with Harry, I blow him a kiss.

I love you.’ He mouths silently, nodding towards the exit I know exactly what he is thinking.

“How long till we can leave?” I ask Fiona, hoping she doesn’t take offence to my question. This whole thing had been planned by her and she had done a wonderful job. Since I lacked etiquette with these kind of things, I think we’re meant to do certain things before left and with the cake cut, the bouquet thrown and our first dance over – there can’t be much more to go.

“Girl, if I had that as a husband I would have left after the ceremony!”

I don’t need to be told again, moving over to Nate I grab his hand and mumbling something to Harry we run out of our reception and into the waiting car.

“Where to now?” He asks, yet from the heat in his gaze it’s not going to be anywhere to far.

Climbing beside him, I kiss him – which he quickly deepens into something much more breathtaking.

“Where ever, I'm all yours mate!”

“That you are!” He kisses me again and thankfully the driver knows where we’re going as I’m too lost in him to pay attention and will be for quite some time - maybe forever and that just doesn’t seem quite long enough.

The End.
