Dolan and I stood in the locked up room. I sighed as he kept trying to get the door to open. Each and every time he slammed into that door, Dolan had grunted in pain. I didn't get it. We were having an over-nighter at school, why would anyone try to do something on school grounds? If this unknown number that kept sending us threats about my sister attended the same school that the two of us went to, that meant that the person who knows about Violette was closer to us than we had thought.

"Just give it up, Dolan. We're locked up." I tried to reason with him. However, Dolan's stubborness kept holding the logical Dolan in and he still didn't stop ramming into the door like a bull. "It's too bad that we didn't have our cell phones, we would have been out of here, already."

"Yeah. Who would've done something like this?"

"A pyschopath named Anonymous who's after us because of my sister, that's who." I replied. "Have you tried the windows, yet?"

"There aren't any. This is the janitor's closet. And besides, don't you think  I would've already done that?"

"Yeah, sorry."

"It's fine. Meanwhile, everyone else is having fun and we're stuck in this stupid hellhole. Maybe, we should've told someone else about it. Like Pete or Officer Chuck?"

"My family already told the cops. And they're not doing anything about it. They've just been sitting on their lazy butts. Okay, so yes, they have tried a little bit with search parties. But, they ended up telling my parents that Violette just ranaway and that she'll be back. Well, it's been ten weeks since then, and she still hasn't came back."

Dolan didn't say anything,  and I was kinda of glad that he didn't. I didn't want anyone to be sorry for me. It was just so unfair. Why did Violette have to go? Why did she go? And why is this stupid person targeting us? It made me furious that Dolan and I were completely useless in this situation. After all, what could some stupid 16-year-olds do?

________________

The rest of the night consisted of Dolan playing on his Gameboy and me trying to get to sleep. To be honest, if it weren't for Violette, Dolan and I would not even be talking to each other. I mean, Dolan wasn't popular. He was a nerdy geek that was obssessed with Gameboy or chess battles against other nerds and geeks that roamed Bridgewood High. But, honestly, Dolan wasn't that bad of a guy.

When Marke and I were dating, he would always end up beating Dolan up or saying mean things to him. He told me that Dolan wasn't a person that he hanged out with. And because I was a naive little brat, I chose to aviod him as well. I laughed as Dolan kept on yelling at a Pokémon monster, telling him to get out of his way.

For the first time in my life, I felt like all of my worries and hardships had been erased from the back of my mind. I was able to laugh as loud as I could without having someone think of me as too loud or too crazy. I was able to enjoy myself. Not a thought about my sister's disappearance or that Anonymous came into my mind. I could never felt this way around Marke or his group. I felt out of place, like I had to like what they liked. And if I didn't,  I wasn't able to associate with them.

When I was with Dolan, I felt like I was finally free. Suddenly, I was knocked out of my thoughts when I noticed something on one of walls in the janitor's closet. As I got up to go near it, Dolan had stopped messing around with his video game. He, too, got up and went to check what I was looking at.

"I-Is this what I think this is?" I asked in horror as I grabbed a flashlight from somewhere near the wall and shined it on it. I blinked. No way. There is no possible way that those could be on the wall.

"Unbelievable." Dolan muttered. And that's when the two of us realized that Violette was hiding a much, much larger secret than we could've ever imagined.

author's note

Hello, Readers,

This is the first start to When Violette Vanished. I got inspired to do this idea after watching a few episodes of Pretty Little Liars with one of my best friends. And by watching 13 Reasons Why. Also, I had this idea in my head for a long time. So, I decided to write it. This isn't my first attempt at writing a novel, but it is my first devoted attempt. If updates don't come quickly, it's most likely because of school. But, since it's summer, I have a lot of free time. So, keep expecting updates for my novel.

Also, since this is my novel, please, do not copy it. All of the characters,  places, and events in this book are merely fictional. If they happen to appear in other place in the real world, it is just a mere coincidence.

Thank you for choosing to read this story. If you would be so dear to give it a vote, I would really appreciate it.

Yours truly,

Ayshia Rubley
