----------------------------------------------

Hi! I'm Lana, and I'm a werewolf. Yes, a werewolf, but I'm not like the other wolves. I'm not beautiful or special. I'm an omega.

Being an omega is the lowest rank of our pack. It's my job to follow orders. There are three rules for an omega: don't ever ignore orders, stay under the radar, and never ever get in touch with the alpha, beta, or third in command.

Some of you might be wondering how this is possible. 'There is no such thing as werewolves,' many will proclaim. Still, we are here. Some humans believe in reincarnation. What they don't know is that this belief originated with the ancient werewolves.

They were powerful creatures who roamed the earth freely, large wolf-like beings about the size of a horse. Soon, they learned a new trick. Their souls could connect to the DNA of some humans, changing it so they could co-inhibit with the human. They could even change back into their original forms, a painful process at first.

The humans passed on their special DNA, and every time a human with a wolf - a so-called werewolf - would die, the wolf would pass on to the next human with whom they could bind.

The DNA of the human would decide whether a wolf could bind. This would make sure the traits of the human and the wolf would compliment each other well.

The ancient wolves had been gifted by the Moon Goddess with soulmates, and when they became werewolves, they were able to find their mates when their human turned eighteen. The Moon Goddess probably did this because, otherwise, there would only be fourteen-year-old parents.

Anyways, enough for the origin lesson for today. Let's get back to business.

At the moment, it's six in the morning. I quickly get dressed and make my way to the Pack House.

Being an omega is never easy for anyone, but after what I have been through, I'm surprised I'm still alive. At one time, I had a brother, a mother, and loving father. Soon, however, my brother moved away. He would get beaten every day, bullies destroying him, body and mind. My dad died protecting my brother and my mom. After my father died, my mother began to fade away. No one could live long without their mate. Then, one day, she decided to give up on life.

Now, before you load all your pity on me, my parents thought of me like dead weight, a petty fly on the windscreen. For me, my parents dying and my brother leaving was just something that happened to another person.

I cried – no matter how much they didn't care for me, they were still family - but I didn't cry for long. When I was twelve, my parents kicked me out of their house. They believed having an omega was one of the worst things to ever happen to them.

I had built a tree house out of stone when I was seven, and with my brother's help, it was watertight. I remember that day like it was yesterday because when you're in my position, you need to remember the good times. It gives you hope and keeps you sane.

There was one person I trusted, and that is Sam. She is the beta's aunt. She saw me run to the tree house the day I got kicked out, and she asked me what happened. I told her, and in return, she promised never to tell anyone. She brought me food, water, clothes, a bed, and anything I needed so I could stay alive. I owe her my life.

As I reach the pack house, I look up at it, admiring its beauty. I must admit the pack house is beautiful. It's almost like a castle.

I opened the door silently, hoping I don't wake up anyone. If I did, I would have a shit load of problems. I quickly made my way to the dining room. Some omegas were setting the table already.

Today it was both the alpha and the beta's birthday. I grabbed some glasses and placed them beside the plates, trying to help the others running around the room.

By the time we were finished, we heard footsteps coming from the second floor, and everyone got away as quickly and silently as possible. Both the alpha and the beta will become nineteen today, so it is an exciting day as they can now find their mates. They took over their father's place when they were eighteen.

I don't know how I feel about the alphas, for I have never met them, nor have I heard much about them, and I am not going to judge them from what is whispered during work. I only judge people I know. My problem is, I only see the good in people, so it's hard for me to judge. As for my mate, I don't know what to think, not that it matters anyway. As soon as meeting me, mine will probably reject me as soon as possible.

Pulling my hood over my head, I began walking to school. I go to a werewolf school along with the rest of the pack. Omegas have their own separate classes so the higher ranks don't have to see us.

It's a long way to school, so when I walk through the front doors, I sigh in relief. The higher ranking wolves aren't here yet. I quickly made my way to my locker and then to my classroom, and despite the class not starting for another ten minutes, almost everyone was already seated.

I didn't have any friends or a boyfriend. I block everyone out knowing they will only betray me sooner or later, and I don't have a boyfriend because, in my younger years, I used to have crooked teeth and spots. Let's just say, I was ugly, so I did what was best for me and everyone else, hiding my face with a hoodie. It soon led to me acting the way I do now, but I really don't care.

I lazily drop into my seat and pull my stuff from my bag. Then, we all waited until the teacher came in and started the lesson for the day.

We don't have a very loud class, but that's because the last thing we want is trouble. The first two lessons were nothing special, it was almost the same every day. When the bell rang for break, I quickly stood up and packed my books.

A lot of omegas stay in the class to eat to avoid others. When you go out of class, you have a higher chance of coming across a high-ranked wolf, but I took it as an adventure.

Most of the time, the higher rankings were in the canteen or outside, so I just walked around in the hallways, keeping to the shadows in case anyone was out. After walking around a bit, I turned a corner only to see two males standing across each other. They looked each other in the eyes, stating "mate" loudly.

I stood frozen, not because I had just witnessed two guys find their mate, but because my wolf, Alice, was screaming in my head, running around while barking out 'mates' over and over again.

That's when I realized another thing. The two guys in front of me were the alpha and beta of our pack. 'This can not be good', I thought, but I must have said it out loud because their heads snapped my way. Again, the word 'mate' flew out their lips, deep and raspy. 'Holy mother f*cker! I have two mates, who are the alpha and beta, who are each other's mates! This is crazy!' With that thought in mind, I sprinted as fast as I could. Followed by two growls.
