· Bay: body color of various shades of red and/or reddish brown, black mane and tail and black on the lower legs.
· Bay Roan: mixture of red and white hairs over its body, black mane and tail and black on the lower legs. The head is darker than the body because red hairs are more present, however it could also be because of the appearance of black hairs.
· Black: black body, mane and tail. No variations of other mixtures of red, brown or white hairs, etc. Note that white markings (such as a blaze, snip, etc.) do appear on black horses, however it does not make them classified as another color. Some black horses can fade or become 'sun burned' which is when the hairs are slightly bleached due to sun exposure, but this again does not mean they are not black. They are still a black horse.
· Blue Roan: mixture of black and white hairs on body. The legs and the head have more black hairs which can cause them to look darker.
