Unforgettable

Prologue

Year: 2017

"I'm so sorry, Yoongi," Namjoon apologizes as his friend looks in horror at the cracked CD that he holds in his hand.

"Remind me never to lend you one of my mixtapes again," Yoongi said, his words laced with salty undertones.

Namjoon braces himself for the explosion of anger that he anticipated would come from Yoongi after he found out that Namjoon had accidently smashed his beloved Agust D mixtape. He had already played out this scenario in his head as he was walking over to Yoongi's record shop. Yoongi will kick him out of his record shop, appropriately named Tongue Technology, as Namjoon runs for his life.

Luckily, Yoongi is having a good day today. His new stock of record players sold out just minutes after he had opened Tongue Technology for the day. Plus, he has five hundred other copies of his Agust D mixtape in the back. He gives Namjoon a gummy smile instead.

"They should call you 'God of Destruction' instead of 'The Forgetful One' around here," Yoongi teases.

Namjoon let out a breath of relief that until now he had not realized he had been holding in.

"That's me, the 'God of Destruction'!" Namjoon exclaims as he flexes his arm, almost knocking over a shelf of records in the process.

Yoongi replies with worry in his voice, "Now get out of here before you destroy my entire record shop, 'God of Destruction'."

Namjoon waves goodbye to Yoongi and takes his leave, stepping out as carefully as possible.

He walks past villagers who whisper about him as he passes. He knows they are not complimenting him for his IQ of 148. They see him as an anomaly because he washed up on a shore of Jeju Island without any memories of his past. Namjoon sighs to himself and keeps his head down so that they will not see the loneliness on his face. Since he washed up on Amnesia, he had gotten nowhere in his search for clues to his past life. He only made five friends in Amnesia, including Yoongi. They were the only ones who understood him because they are all anomalies on this island as well.

Yoongi is a musician who runs his own record shop which is frowned upon in Amnesia since most of the young men in this town spend all of their time on their family farms. Hoseok runs a hip-hop dance studio which is not as accepted in Amnesia as in other villages because children around these parts only learned the traditional dances of their ancestors. Jimin is a physical trainer which is unheard of in Amnesia where villagers go to public health centers to work out together rather than with a physical trainer at home. Taehyung is an elementary school teacher who wants to teach English to the children of Amnesia which parents disapprove of since the children of Amnesia never leave the island to travel to a faraway place where their English skills would be of use. Jungkook runs his own Chinese martial arts studio which is an anomaly in Amnesia where children only learn taekwondo, the martial art of their ancestors.

Namjoon works day and night to uncover the secrets of his past, mostly hanging out with his friends while they ask him questions to try to trigger memories from the past. He even tried going to Amnesia Town Hall to see if there are any records of his family there.

Nothing.

There were days where Namjoon wanted nothing more than to just give up. However, he always encourages himself to keep pushing on because once he finds the secrets of his past, he will feel complete again. Not like he is missing the other half of his heart, which is exactly how he feels now.

Today, Namjoon doesn't feel like searching. He wants to relax. He wants to sit somewhere and people-watch as he sips an Americano. He just wants to live in the present today, not in the past like he has been every day since he came to Amnesia.

Namjoon saunters with his hands in his pockets to Amnesia's most famous café, Gem. He loves taking detours to the café every once in a while because he loves their cupcakes adorned with edible gems. Namjoon also takes detours to the café because the atmosphere inside is welcoming, almost familiar. He shrugs off the fact that it seems familiar to him because he knows he never could have been there before. Unless he used to live in Amnesia a long time ago...

With this revelation, Namjoon becomes lost in his own thoughts. He does not notice the handsome stranger walking toward him, who is also lost in his own thoughts.

Until he collides with the stranger.
