Third Person POV
Clover's story starts with a camping trip in the wilderness, a chance to connect with nature. She rests her head against the window or their car as she can here her younger cousins bickering with each other in the back of the car and she can't help but cover her ears.
The camping trip was meant to act as a vacation but right now it only felt like torture, she mentally tells them to be quiet as she pulls a pair of earbuds out of the backpack she was carrying along with her.
She nods her head to the music only hearing the subtle murmurs of her cousins now screaming at each other and their father scolding them for being obnoxious and loud.
She stares out the window looking at the beautiful oak trees as they drive by them and she can't help but smile to herself seeing the brand new spring leaves on the trees. Her head slightly tilted down as she begins to doze off to the rhythm of the music and the slow bobbing of the car which she finds some what soothing.
Her relaxing car ride was interrupted by the sudden stop of the car which caused her to be thrown forward and the seat belt slightly winding her, after regaining her breath she looks up to see their car had come to a stop at their camping site. Her family slowly climbs out of the vehicle as she pulls her bag back onto her shoulder and adjusts her shirt which was a bit messed up from the seat belt crushing her, she stumbles out of the car slightly tripping over the stairs but she quickly regains her balance so her cousins wouldn't tease her about being clumsy.
The large group walks around the forest searching for a good place to set up camp, though they had brought their trailer they decided they would have a better camping experience if they used actual tents and sleeping bags. As they were getting deeper into the forest Clover felt more relaxed as she breathed in the fresh scent of the trees, she smiled to herself as she saw some creature dash through the bushes and out into the wilderness.
With a sigh she mindlessly follows the rest of her family as the trudge deeper into the woods, soon they could only see the trees when they looked around them.
Being the strange child Clover was, she didn't bother paying attention to the strict life lecturing her uncle was giving to the group. Instead she had her eyes focused on something else, a large mountain off in the distance that strangely was the only one she could see, which only intrigued her more.
Her mind was so focused on the sight of that almost lonely mountain she had forgotten to follow the rest of her family and now they were call in for her a few metres away.
"Sorry, I was daydreaming." She apologizes slightly flustered and she awkwardly adjusts her bag again and follows after the large group again.
The mountain looks like it would have a great view in the night time.
The idea of climbing to the top of that mountain with her binoculars while the stars glisten in the sky was the best thought she had had since she got to the forest, aside from running around the woods in the middle of the night. She quickly dashed up ahead to speak with her mom who was currently the boss of the whole trip, she knew that this was a decision for her mom.
"Uh mom, since I don't really have anything I want to do here can I walk up to the mountain at sunset please? I know it's a weird request but I promise to be safe." Clover says unsurely as she fiddles with shirt slightly.
"The mountain?!? I- wha-? Um can everyone go ahead, Clover and I will be a minute." Clover's mother calls to the rest of the large group and as they all grunt in response she grips Clover's shoulders and pulls her to the side.
"Clover do you know how many children have gone up to that mountain and haven't returned?!? I am not even going to discuss it with your cousins around!" She scolds to Clover with an extremely serious look on her face.
"I won't even let any of the children go along with a family member so why would I let you go on your own?!!" She asks her and she shifts uncomfortably within her mother's grasp.
"I-I don't know." Clover says with quite some attitude which only makes her mother angrier.
"Enough with the attitude Clover! Honestly! We are here to spend time in nature with your family and I am taking every precaution to make sure nobody gets injured and we make it home with all 6 children!!!" Her mother shouts as she throws her hand in the air and anger begins to boil within Clover.
"I-!"
"No! Enough Clover! You are not going anywhere near that mountain and that is final!" Her mother yells finally which pushes Clover over the edge of her rage.
"This is so STUPID! Because of some dumb rumors and legends I'm not allowed to do the one thing I want to do here?!? Its seems REALLY unfair considering you are allowing us to come camp in in the woods which probably have bears and wolves in it!" Clover shoots at her mother with boiling rage in every syllable she spoke.
"But nooooo! I'm not allowed to go up a mountain which is probably safer and way better than this dumb, old forests because I might 'not return'!" Clover says sarcastically as she breaks from her mothers grasp.
"Well you know what MOM?!? That's what GPS is for and I would be on a mountain meaning that I'd be higher than all the trees so I'd be able to see everything!" She continues shouting at her mother.
"So tell me, DOES IT REALLY SEEM LIKE I COULD GET LOST UP THERE?!?" She ends angrily and her mother is speechless.
"Yeah that's what I thought!"
"Clover Geneva Dauphin that is enough from you!!" Her mother shouts and Clover backs up slightly at the tone of her voice.
"You dare talk back to me like that?!? I'm your mother and I will not tolerate this kind of attitude!" Her mother yells while pointing a finger at her.
"Because of this outburst you no longer have the privledge to go wander around! You are sticking by my side for the rest of this trip and when it's over you are grounded for a month!" Her mother says stirnly as she grabs for Clover's wrist and starts to pull her back to the rest of their group.
Clover's mom was never the best person to mess with or shout at, she had always been the boss of the house and to get her mad was like poking a lion with a stick.
"What? No! That's not fair-"
"I said that's enough!" Her mother snaps at her and Clover tries her best to hold back tears and she yanks her wrist from her mother's grasp and she runs up ahead to catch the group.
"Clover!" Her mother shouts to her but she merely ignores her calls and continues to run to catch up to the rather large group with her hood up on her head hoping her mother would not see her within the group.
"I hate this place." Clover says under her breath as she looks down at the ground trying to avoid everyone's gazes as she wipes some tears from her face.
She knew on the inside that she wasn't going to just let this slide, whether her mom said to it not.
