Year 7 | The Demise of Lily Potter

Start from the beginning

"What is she doing?" one young girl asked another.

"Where is she going?" asked a Slytherin boy as he looked at Neville Longbottom.

"I don't know..."

No fear, no hesistation, no turning back – those were the words she repeated over and over in her head as she walked over the bridge towards Hogsmeade village, tuning out the parade of footsteps behind her. It would only be a few more moments before every witch and wizard, Deatheater or rebel, would know of Lily's location. Even the Deatheaters standing guards at every entrance and post stepped aside to watch her walk, grinning at their pre-calculated triumph. After all, there were dozens of Deatheaters on the grounds and in Hogsmeade. Lily Potter was an outstanding witch with extraordinary abilities, but she wasn't powerful enough to take on an army of Deatheaters.

And so comes in the Surge, for she was walking down a path that meant the end of hope for countless rebels that looked up to her. It was a selfish act and she knew it, but no one else would die in her name. It was time she do what she was meant to and diminish the hold the Dark Lord had over her before it caused a catastrophe. After all, it has been shown many times in many ways: Lily Potter is the designer of her own catastrophe and no one else.

That's why, when Neville watched her enter Hogsmeade village, realization of what she was about to do felt like a punch in the stomach. He brandished his phoenix insignia and called out for everyone who would hear him. She's giving up, he thought to them, I repeat, Lily is giving herself in. Everyone heard him and everyone stopped what they were doing. They didn't all react one by one, slowly or hesitantly. Everyone Disapparated from their homes and their safe havens all at once like an overwhelming avalanche.

         The rebels were coming.

"She's giving up!" exclaimed a Hufflepuff boy in disbelief as a few girls wailed hopelessly behind him

"She's giving up!" exclaimed a Hufflepuff boy in disbelief as a few girls wailed hopelessly behind him.

"I don't believe it!" shouted another.

Ginny and Luna looked at Neville and they shared furtive glances. They knew Lily better than everyone else and not many hours ago, she was grinning over all of them, offering them hope just by standing in their presence. If one thing was for sure, Lily Potter was as blunt  a person as one could be – if everything was going to go to shit, she'd tell them. She wouldn't give them false hope.... Maybe she meant for Harry to be their beacon of hope now....Maybe she was giving up.

"Lily, what's going on?" Ginny called out to her as the bronze trio jogged up to her, matching her pace. "You're going to get caught! Every Deatheater in London will have you cornered! You need to g–"

"That's exactly what I want." was Lily's vague reply. She spared the horizon a glance while it was still peaceful; the skies were a blood red from the setting sun and the air was warm and infused with tension. It was a perfect day to do something so horribly epic.
