Chapter Two - Eric
I hadn't really planned on continuing with the notes to Ivy Montgomery, after the first one. I'd expressed my concern for her and she'd reassured me. That should have been the end of it. I'd never talked to her before and now I'm wondering why. The sass that she'd put in her first response to me drew me in, which is why I kept responding. I had a thing for sassy girls, which is funny because she'd said she wasn't my type. In truth, she really wasn't. I didn't spend my time with smart girls who would rather read during lunch, than gossip. I was starting to think that I'd been hanging out with the wrong type of girls. I was having more fun writing notes to Ivy, than I'd had in a long time.
So after I woke up, I went to my window, smiling upon finding another response. Maybe I shouldn't have admitted to being able to see through her curtain at night, but she'd blushed so prettily when I helped her with her groceries, that I couldn't help but try to make her blush again. I could picture her reading that and thinking about all the times I'd caught glimpses of her, as she had changed clothes. I couldn't really see the intimate details of her body, but her silhouette had starred in more than a few of my dreams lately.
I opened my window and grabbed the note, reading the one word she'd written: Pervert. I burst out laughing, but then heard an engine start up. I went to the window and saw that Ivy was already leaving for school. Crap. That meant she wouldn't get my next note until after school. Unless I gave it to her at school? I could tape it to her locker or something. Feeling like that was a good plan, I crossed out her one word and wrote:
Please don't be mad. It was a nice view.
Smiling at the thought of her blush upon reading that, I got ready for school in a rush. I found breakfast already ready and I sat down, eager to scarf it down and be on my way. When I noticed the silence around me, I glanced up to find my mom and my brothers looking at me funny. With my mouth half full I asked, "What?"
Mom shook her head, "Don't talk with your mouth full. We were just wondering who you are and what have you done with the real Eric? I normally have to drag you out of bed and you almost seem eager to go to school today. What gives?"
Mom had been the only parent in my life since I as eight and my younger brothers, twins, were five. Dad left us, without a backward glance. Mom had done an amazing job all on her own, though. She worked hard to give us a good life and I think she'd succeeded. Thomas and Timothy, my bratty, now fifteen year old brothers were suddenly snickering between them. That was never a good sign.
Sure enough a moment later, Timothy snickered, "Eric has a new girlfriend."
"No I don't." It was the truth. For once, I didn't have a girlfriend.
Thomas smirked, "The only time you're this eager is when it involves a girl."
Mom nodded, "They're right. So who is she?"
"I don't have a new girlfriend." I tell them, rolling my eyes.
"But you are interested in someone." Mom said, knowingly.
Was I interested in Ivy? I mean, she was right to say she wasn't my type, but I was having fun writing notes to her. I definitely liked what I'd seen through her curtain. I liked the way I seemed to make her nervous, when I helped her with the groceries. I wouldn't make her nervous if she wasn't effected by me, right? I hadn't been lying when I called her cute, but was I interested, like mom was implying? If I wasn't interested, then I needed to think long and hard about continuing with our notes. I didn't want to lead her on.
I sighed, "I don't know, mom."
Mom sat back and said, "Wow, who is this girl? You're always so sure of yourself, when it comes to your female followers. This one has you confused and tied up in knots. I like her already."
