PHILS POV//

the bell rang as i sat down in the back corner next to my best friend kayla.

"why'd we choose this as our elective again?" she asked.

"i like art. i may not be very good at it, but i still like the whole concept of drawing."

"says the punk kid of the school. why do you like art so much? why couldn't we have chosen band? we could've played the trumpet together." i just looked at her.

"you're right. the drums?" i laughed a little bit.

i looked up at the board to see that it was freedraw day. aka the teacher gets to sit back and relax because he forgot his lesson plans day.

"hey, its freedraw. you don't have to even learn anything." i said trying to get her in a better mood.

"oh fun. now i get to see how truely terrible i am."

"i haven't even seen you draw before."

"that's because i don't."

"but you're in art class. do you just not follow directions?" she just looked at me.

"fine whatever. i'll draw. you don't have to, but you do have to watch me draw."

"ive never seen you draw either." she kicked her feet up on the desk. the teacher looked at her, shook his head, then went back to doing stuff on his computer.

"that's because i don't let you. today's a special day."

"why?"

"because i feel like it. don't question me."

"okay whatever."

i started to sketch out the face shape of a person. i didn't know where i was going with it, until i decided i would just draw kayla then give it to her if i felt good enough about it.

"you seem to know what you're doing, lester." she complimented me. i smiled a little bit.

"i do, don't i, jones?"

"wait, how long have you taken art?"

"a few years. since i was 9, so about 7 years."

"damn. that's why you seem to know what you're doing."

"i guess."

i continued to sketch out the face shape not being able to get it perfect. detailed drawings usually took me three to four hours, so this would just be a quick sketch with barely any details.

"what do you mean 'i guess'"

"i don't know. i just guess."

"oh?"

"yeah."

~

i finshed up the sketch by adding her freckles. she had her head down because she claimed she got a "headache", when really i think she just got bored. she ended up falling asleep so i just sat back in my chair and looked around the room. there was only about 15 minutes left of class so i woke her up.

"hey sleepyhead." i shook her shoulders softly.

"hmm."

"we have 15 minutes left and i finished the sketch."

"oh let me see." i handed her the sketch.

"oh my god. this is so good."

"thank you." i chuckled.

"this is me right?"

"yeah kind of. don't take it the wrong way."

"i wasn't going to. thank you so much."

"you can keep it."

"thank you oh my god." she said smiling wide.

i smiled and got out of my seat to give her a hug, then we sat back down.

"that kid keeps staring at you." she told me randomly.

"what kid?"

"all the way to your right. i noticed it earlier, but i thought i was just imagining it."

i looked over to my right to see some kid staring at me. he looked back down blushing. he was wearing a pink sweater with a cherry blossom tree on the front and a pair of ripped jeans. i shook my head then looked back at kayla.

"see?"

"yeah. i don't get it. do i have something on my face?"

"no, but the way he was looking at you. he seemed focused."

"i don't know. let's just leave it alone."

"okay." she said as the bell rang indicating that we could leave.

"hey i'll see you at lunch right?"

"of course. just like everyday."

"alright see you then."

"see ya."
