This is what happened during the time of Xerxes...
In the third year of his reign he gave a proper banquet for all his nobles and officials.
The military leaders of Persia and Media, the princes, and the nobles of the provinces were present.
Queen Vashti also gave a banquet for the women in the royal palace of King Xerxes.
When King Xerxes was in high spirits, he commanded eunuchs who served him to bring before him Queen Vashti, wearing her royal crown, in order to display her beauty to the people and nobles...
Vashti, in her pride, immediately refused, causing those in attendance to question her value as queen. The king was furious with this act of rebellion.
She was then removed from the palace, her title as queen revoked, and the country was left wanting a better, more willing queen aside their king, one of which they believed was a pillar of strength in such times.
Thus began the search for something more...
