I am awake but keeping my eyes shut. Dylann sits next to me in that stupid blue chair. It’s the third morning. She came in about five minutes ago just to sit it that chair. Why doesn’t the beauty just leave so it won’t be so hard? Maybe she changed her mind? What if she wants to stay with me? I need to open my eyes and make an excuse for her to stay. I come up with different scenarios in my head.
“I think I want to stay. I don’t think it’s a good idea though,” she whispers softly. “If I stay I know I’ll get attached. Then if something were to happen to you. I would break all over again. If I leave now and never turn back I could never have to worry about someone else’s life.”
That is the most I have ever heard her speak at once. As I’m listening to her, I notice that she has a slight accent that I just can’t put my finger on. I can’t decide weather I should speak out now or wait to see if she has more to say. My eyes open and instantly they go to her. She is looking down at the ground between her boots, with her elbows resting on her knees and her brow pulled together. Her hands just dangle in the space between us, so I reach out my left hand and grab her right. She whips her head up to look at me with wide eyes.
“What all did you hear?” She whispers breathlessly.
“Everything,” I admit. “That’s why I’m asking you to stay with me. I’m not fit enough to care for myself, wounded or not. I need help and I would prefer it if that person was you and not a stranger.”
“I am a stranger though.”
“I know you better than the happy meal customers out there.”
“Happy meal customers?”
“Zombies. Please stay? Maybe once I’m healed enough we can both leave together.”
Dylann’s hangs her head between her shoulders and looks at the ground again. I suddenly realise that we are still holding hands so I give her’s a little squeeze and she replies the same way.
“Don’t think about it, just do Dylann.” Once I say her name she raises her head and gives a little nod.
“Okay. I will stay but on my terms. Starting with once you're healed enough to walk, we are leaving. Second, we will travel quickly so nut up or shut up. Got it?”
“Yes ma’am.” I say sulting her.

It took me about four days, after that morning with Dylann, before I could even stand on my own to use the bathroom. Then two more days after that for me to be able to walk/limp on my own. Through it all though Dylann stayed and helped me. We didn’t speak to each other much. Only a few sentences here and there but they eventually died.

“Wake up! Damn it Dylann, you have to get up!”
I shook her shoulders so head her head lulled back and that’s when I started searching her for a bite. I turned her body so she lays on her back. My eyes make it down to her right forearm and I see bone and muscle. I start to panic looking around quickly. Suddenly her whole body jolted making me start. I quickly look down at her and everything goes quiet and still.
“Dylann?” I whisper knowing she won’t answer.
Her eyelids twitch and her fingers start to spasm. Then her body goes still again. Dylann’s eyes open and looks around reminding me of a puppy who just woke up from surgery. She turns her head towards me and just blinks. I make a whimpering noise realizing what is happening. A gurgling, growl sound came from her throat. She turns her whole body towards me and put her left foot on the floor. Dylann looked down at her foot then back up at me. I open my mouth to say something but all that comes out is a squeak. She lunges at me, snapping her teeth and growling. I step back but run into the wall and she pins me while I push at her chest trying to keep her teeth from my throat. She keeps attacking no matter how much I push and scratch and kick. Eventually my elbow buckles and she takes the advantage and lunges again sinking her teeth into my throat and I hear a gurgling but can’t figure out if it’s from her or me…
