Part I • Chapter XII

Start from the beginning

Gabriel pulled a lock of my hair, drawing my attention to him. "Two reasons. One, this isn't just our room so we can't keep people out forever. You heard what happened when Mr Blackbourne requested that Chet give up an hour in the evening to let you have solo access."

I think everyone had heard.

When I had come into the cafeteria during lunch I was just in time to witness Chet sputtering profanities at Mr Blackbourne, again. This time he was claiming that Mr Blackbourne wanted special treatment for a special snowflake. Then he proceeded to announce his plans to the entire room that a party would take place in the shared restroom every single night until the games started.

An attendant helpfully reminded Chet that we could only bathe on our own floors, which made him rescind his party plans to the rest of the room. However, he still was adamant about his rights.

I discovered I really didn't like Chet all that much.

"Two," Gabriel held up a second finger. "You fucking like the bathtub. You want to be able to enjoy a nice bath and have time to relax in it. Right?"

I nodded. It really was a dream experience. "But if it's this much trouble it's really not worth it."

Gabriel rolled his eyes and pushed me towards the door. "Just go! If someone comes wanting in we'll make them wait long enough so you'll have time to get dressed and come back out here. Go and be clean. No one wants to smell you."

"Hey!" I objected at his statement, but obediently went into the room as Silas and North chuckled behind me. The door closed before I had time to look back at Gabriel.

I didn't smell, did I? I sniffed under my arm.

Gross, I did smell and I wasn't even in training today.

They were right, I was going to have to clean and then soak otherwise who knew what it would be like on days that Juliana had gotten ahold of me. Already I was dreading tomorrow, because I knew she'd want to make up for my missed practice this morning.

I had a feeling that this was going to be an everyday thing.

I took off my shirt before I noticed the blood.

I had been wearing Silas' shirt to nap in, and the sleeves had been pulled down to my fingertips. My hand shook as I studied the source, the cut that I had gotten when Kota knocked me to the ground had reopened.
