The Demon

The wind howls silently
Afraid it might carry the footfalls
Of the approaching demon
To the ears of the unsuspecting.

The wind carries the burden,
The stench of decay with it,

Masking it under the guise,
Of a magic sweet and cloying.

The wind rustles the trees,

In a dance, macabre,

Announcing to the world,
The demon has come.

Who is this Demon?

Even the wind is kept ignorant,

From the knowledge of this being,

Of seemingly omnipotence.

For the demon lives,

In every black heart,
In every dark thought,

In every silent corner
Of a soul torn apart.

The demon is there, always,
Rustling beneath your skin,
Creeping underneath your veins,
In your darkest secrets,
Your deepest lies.

Hark! Be wary, for the demon...
Is always somewhere in you.
