The House of Bashtar

The darkness slithers through the bogs,

the ground heaves with each step you take,

your breath fogs heavy in front of your face,

and your stomach sinks with unease

as you approach The house of Bashtar.

The doors have rusted on their hinges,

the porch strewn with weeds dead,

the walls are clawed with strings of ivy,

the garden filled with black roses dead.

This is The house of Bashtar.

The steps creak with every step of your feet,

the weeds tumble away from them,

the doors open noiselessly into the house.

An abyss opens beneath,

you leap to save from being swallowed by,

the abyss that now has gone.

Shivering, you make your way into

The house of Bashtar.

The doors slam shut behind you,

the windows rattle with laughter,

a wind starts blowing through foyer,

a chill rushes up your spine as

laughs The house of Bashtar.

You brace yourself and run up the stairs,

the steps moving beneath your feet,

you seek out the one place of safety,

the one room where you belong in this house,

the third room to the right,

with your name on the door,

the runes you etched in it,

with safety they glow.

the wind rushes forth with great anger and rage,

the house howls your name as you return to your cage,

the third room to the right,

inherited to you by your mother's birthright.

You shut the door behind you, and breathe a sigh of relief,

as you are safe for now from the clutches of,

The house of Bashtar.
