You have returned
I knew our love was too strong
and this premature parting
could never be,
no it could never be.
In that place
when I looked at you
serene
calm
resting
make up covering
those terrible wounds
I knew then
I could not be apart from you
that if you had truly died
I must die also.
I wept
bitter salt,
could not stop weeping
tears like rivers of grief
flowing
unceasing
into an ocean of pain.
They gave me sedatives
told me time would heal
time
endless time
would bring a kind of peace
closure.
But that could never be
it was you and me
against the world
I was never strong enough
to be alone.
But now you have come back
returned,
tapped upon our door
wanting to enter our home
where we were happy
always content
strong
together.
You sit in your chair
like nothing has changed
your clouded eyes
unblinking
fixed upon me
and now you stand,
still in the shroud
they wrapped you in
and you walk towards me
your cold hands
stroke my fevered skin
your blue chilled lips
close upon my mouth
you have come to me
we are one
forever.
