Unexpected Encounter

There had been rumours that the abandoned Gentle Spirit Mountain (静精山) tribe had risen back from the dead. They were once famous for their abundance of spirit energy and healing knowledge. Only the pure hearted individuals can ascend to the power and be taught the knowledge.

Other tribes tried to infiltrate into the mountain and rob any potential precious items. If the war didn't teach them enough, then this war will. Nobody had seen this type of spirit energy, but revenge can change one's heart.

My current errand is not to steal from Gentle Spirit Mountain, though if I ever meet its owner, I'll suggest to change the mountain's name to something more fitting.

My tribe is in dire need of a certain plant that can heal and prolong my tribe leader's failing health and time is crucial. I would have already obtained the plant...if this rascal didn't come barging in like the uncultured idiot he is.

"Why do you need this?" he asks, his eyes narrowing somewhat playfully. His deep blue robes flutter in the slight breeze.

I sneer at him, "That's none of your business. Move before I kill you!"

Neither of us budge from the stance we hold, his dagger strains against the edge of my hand fan. My hand holding the fan shakes slightly, and I know that the fan isn't going to last for long.

"Oh?" he smiles as he simply glances at the slowly cracking fan. "That's a great fan you got there. To be able to block my dagger, did you commission your weapon from someone?"

"Move!" I lash out my leg and manoeuvre out of his attacking distance. "Who are you?"

"Oh ho, can't you tell?" he laughs lightly, the sound slightly echoing in the forest. "What a pity. I don't usually remember people's name and faces but even I know you, Rong Li Heng (荣力恒)."

I glance at his cheeky face and frown. Don with expensive looking garments that are suited for royals strolling in their garden and not for combat, he seems to be at ease. Who is he? Why is he here? Why is he obstructing my task? I do not have time for this royal swine! My Master's life is in my hand and I will not fail him.

I flick open my fan sharply and flung it in an arc, aiming it at his neck hoping it'll serve as a distraction while I extract the plant from the ground. I would have long chopped it off and be done with it, but unfortunately the whole plant is needed.

My hand stretches out and instinctively, I pull back quickly and a dagger strikes at where my hand once was.

"Ah, so that's why your fan can withstand the pressure from my dagger."

I glare at him as he waves my fan in a leisurely fashion. Judging by the moon's location, I got 30 minutes left to get the plant.

"Who are you?" I spit out. I'm determined to not waste any more time on this fool. I'll kill if I must.

"How mean," he pouts, snapping my fan shut and swinging it around with amusement. "I already sent you a hint."

Keeping the fool within my eyesight, I pluck his dagger out of the ground and examine it. It's a small curved dagger with a wicked sharp point. Its hilt made from black jade, carved to look like a small dragon with its mouth wide open, where the blade protrudes from. The dagger is overall black, but it's eyes are white jades, making the dragon's eyes glow in the dark. Down the side of the dagger's blade are three letter characters.

"Li Yi Jun (李怡君)" the shock is evident in my voice. Li Yi Jun, the crown prince. Do all the princes have that much free time to wander in and out of the palace or is it only him?

"The one and only! I was wondering what I should do if you still can't recognise me"

Are all princes that carefree? I want to go over to him and kick him senseless while lecturing him on the importance of looking after our country. My status doesn't allow me such fantasies, so I can only bow and send my greetings.

"Crown Prince, my apologies."

He flings my fan back to me as a reply. "It's alright. Not all citizens care about the royal family. Though the ignorant ones had been executed." His tone is light as if he doesn't care about his family at all.

I freeze, hearing the implied threat. Peeking at the moon, I swallow my pride.

"This ignorant one will educate himself. Have mercy."

The Crown Prince sighs, "I liked you better when you didn't know my identity." He looks at me oddly before walking towards me.

I glance at the moon. 5 minutes left.

He picks up his jade dagger and left the forest, throwing out a comment over his shoulder when he exits. "Ah, so bored."

I quickly stow away my broken fan, reminding myself to go back to the weapon forger to get it fixed before digging out the plant and running back to my tribe before time runs out.

"Sorry Gentle Spirit Mountain! I'm just borrowing it for now!"

As I left the forest's edge, I thought I heard a female's voice.

"Rong Li Heng, you promised."
