Five | Contract

Runa, or Queen Astoria Lucial Heartblade, explained everything to Kai. Kai tried his best to keep up with her explanation, but he could only tell until this far.

Astoria Lucial Heartblade was one of the Demon Queens who ruled over the underworld. Her nickname was The Demon Queen of Blue Hell, because she was the only demon who possessed the power of the blue flame.

Then, she was banished as the Demon King, Lucifer took over her territory because she lost the fight. Lucifer sent her to earth, where her powers are at the brink of extinction. If she lost all her power, she will become a normal mortal.

And that's why, she secretly become a witch. It only helped her for awhile, but it was still boosting her powers and magic.

"And there you have it." She said. They sat under the light of the moon, at the doorstep of the house. Kai had trouble processing all her words. It seemed so hard to believe that she was a demon.

"But you know, Kai," she continued. "Because I have released my powers, you're not supposed to live anymore."

"What?"

"Demons gain powers by feeding the feeling of hatred and despair to humans. Plus, we can also gain more by killing and sending their soul to the underworld. We live in secret, and no mortal can find out of our presence here. That is why, when one knows, we have to kill them and gain powers by eating their souls."

Kai gulped. He was afraid. Runa turned back to normal before she had explained things, but even by looking normal, her words struck fear into him to the point where he didn't know what to do.

"But I can't kill you, Kai." She added. "You've been a great company all this time, and killing you would be considered betrayal, wouldn't it?"

"Then what are you going to do?" Kai asked.
With a smile, she answered. "We'll make a contract."

"A contract?" Kai repeated. It sounded odd, but he got the idea.

"If we make a contract, our souls will be linked, and we will became a part of one another. We are going to be tied by fate, and nothing can stop us by doing so."

Kai somehow liked the idea, but he was still scared. Of course, it was his first time encountering a demon, and it was his first time seeing such powerful magic.

"..fine." he said really quietly, as if he was mumbling.

"It's not like I have any other choice, right? If I refuse, you'd have to kill me."

Runa let a small laugh. "True, and I wouldn't want that. Well then."

Runa stood up, Kai followed. Runa offered him her hands, in which she accept and felt a huge wave coming beneath his feet.

"Close your eyes. It might hurt if you don't."

Kai followed her instructions. He closed his eyes and held her hand tight, as if he was fearing for his life. In which he was.

"Concentrate, Kai. Focus on what you want to do and what you want to become now." Runa told him.

Kai nodded, though he had a feeling Runa was also closing her eyes.

"Now, the contract shall be made. The contract will tie our fates and destinies together, and it must not be broken. Not until our destinies end."

Kai felt a wave of light coming, his vision was white even though his eyes were closed.

"The contract will soon be made," she said. "And when it does, our souls will become one, and promise me to never ever leave my side until our destinies end. Promise?"

"Yeah, until our destinies end..."

A huge blast of blue light blasted from under their feet. Kai endured the pain with all he can. He held Runa's hand tight, almost as if he wanted to break it.

Though the fire was blue, it was still hot. Kai guessed that it might come straight from the underworld, which was the source of Runa's powers.

Seconds later, the blue light from below started to fade. It became transparent as each moment past on. Kai let go of Runa's hand and felt light-headed.

And after all that, his vision became blurry. But the blue light disappeared. Kai stumbled but Runa managed to catch him before he did.

"Well done, Kai. Starting from today, you're a half-demon."

Kai looked at his hands. It seemed normal, but his skin has somewhat turned paler than before. Runa helped him sat down on the doorstep and summoned a mirror with her magic.

Kai looked at the mirror, and it seems that he had a few changed.

His hair was still the same, but more blue in color. His eyes reminded him of snake eyes, but they were midnight blue. He had pointy ears, fangs and small horns on his temples.

"The horns get bigger when you're using your powers," Runa explained. "So when you're not, they kinda hide behind your bangs."

Runa pulled out a hand and Kai gazed at it before shifting his eyes to her eyes.

She smiled warmly at him and said, "From now on, you'll be my partner. Together, we will take back my throne and reclaim my crown. So don't leave my side until our mission has been completed."

Kai smiled and shake her hand. Their two eyes fixed on each other as their lips curved downwards to a kind smile.

"Deal."
