I avoid Max the next day at school. Of course I can't avoid him all the way because I see him in the hallway. He doesn't look at me and acts like I don't exist.
In Math we have to do a partner project and Max is in my math class. And we get partnered together. Of course.
"Let's just get this done." He grunts
We work with no talking the whole time and get most of it done.
"Good work you two." Miss Chev says
We nod. We sit there for the last 5 minutes of class in silence.
"Max.." I start
"No. I'm not talking to you. You shut me out." He says
"I did? You did! You wouldn't let me explain myself." I say
"What is there to explain?" He asks
"A lot. But clearly you don't care so i won't tell you." I say crossing my arms
We don't say anything for the rest of the class. When the bell rings I'm one of the first ones out of there.

Before lunch one of Max's friends stops me while I'm at my locker.
"What do you want?" I ask grumpily
"Hey Camille right?" He asks
"Yeah?" I say
"I'm Dylan, Max's friend." He says
"If you're here to speak for Max I don't wanna hear it." I say
"Camille just hear me out." He says
"You have five minutes. Go." I say standing up and looking at him
"What we are, are just labels people have put on us and expect us to live up to them. They don't really mean anything. Max has a heart, he as feelings. He has a soft side. He opened up to you, but you didn't let him in so it hurt him-" I stop Dylan
"I tried. I tried to explain myself. Max doesn't see that my god damn step mother has shut me out of the real world for the past 4 years. I didn't get to learn what love was or how to be in love or whatever. I'm very stubborn and I flub up. So I'm sorry." I snap
"That's what Max needs to know." Dylan says
"I TRIED! OKAY! Don't you understand?? Max doesn't want to talk to me anymore." I shout
"Okay. I understand." Dylan says and walks away
I sigh and hit my head on the lockers. I slam my locker shut, I begin to walk to my next class but I see Max walking with another girl. Clearly he's moved on from me.
