Distant Memory

First time gone you claim you were all alone,
Leaving us in the worst part of the broken home

Second time claim it was just a mistake,
I should grow up and stop leaving misery in my wake.

Third time done is the final straw,
Telling me it's the last and it will happen no more.

The lies the betrayal the guilt and the blame,
All too much for someone so young to tolerate.

But of course it's my fault of course I am to blame,
I'm the reason you are miserable.

You chose him over me cause he saved you from where we were,
Your knight in shining armour even though he treats you just as bad.

The beatings don't count, the lies don't count,
Waking up in the middle of the night to tend to you is nothing more than a passing thought.

I wonder if it's me, wonder if I attract this treatment.
Surely it can't be?

No it's not.
I was there. I saved you. No other person was there to help but me.

Now all I am is a passing thought, a second choice
..... a distant memory
