I shifted in my seat, and had to take a few seconds to let his words sink in; that wasn't a question, it was a request. Nearly as if I didn't have a choice. "But... I don't know the guy?"

"Doesn't matter," He shrugged, matter of factly, "He said we could bring a date, so... yeah."

For some reason, a smile appeared on my face at his words. "Oh, so would that count as another date you're taking me on?" Teasing him was becoming one of my favorite hobbies.

"Depends, if you're up for making out behind the bar or getting at least a little drunk, then yeah." And teasing me was obviously one of his favorites as well.

"I can promise you one of those," I smirked as I noticed his eyes widen just the slightest, "I've never gotten drunk at a house party so it should be fun."

Liam let out a long sigh at my answer, and I almost couldn't hold my laughter in; almost. "Fine. So that's a yes, right?"

"Sure. What's the worst thing that could happen? You hit a tree this time?" I bit my tongue as he shook his head, a knowing smile on his face.

"That's hilarious. We're here."

I blinked twice, needing a second to realize what he'd said. "What?"

"We're here," He repeated and turned the engine off, and sighed as he looked at me, for the first time since we'd entered the vehicle. "You might wanna throw one of your fake smiles on now, my parents are home."

I rolled my eyes as he walked out of the car; now that he knew that I found the thought of his parents thinking we're together awkward, I wasn't going to hear the last of it.

"I don't need a fake smile for your parents," I said as I followed him to the door, "They're nice people. Which means you might be adopted." What better way to kill the awkwardness than by making potentially hurtful jokes?

"Babe, if I'm adopted, then you must be from another planet," Liam said in a chill tone, assuring me that my joke wasn't hurtful at all. "Now get in."

I gave him a slight glare as he held the door opened for me; I would have surely had a comeback if I'd thought for another few or so seconds, but as soon as he walked in he slammed the door shut as hard as he probably could, making me jump away from him. That was on purpose, for sure.

"What the... are you fucking insane?" I hissed at him, glad that I wasn't too loud as I saw his sister running toward us. Well, she's quick.

"What's the big deal?" He frowned at me as he picked Karlie up, "It's my way of letting everyone know I'm home."

I narrowed my eyes at him, "Oh, so your other family members aren't fond of scaring the s... sugar out of people when they walk through the door? What a shocker," I said, the last part loudly since he was nearly doubling over in laughter; most likely because of my lame save.

"Well, you did say I'm adopted, so..." He trailed off and shrugged as he started walking toward the living room; by now I knew the house quite well.

"I'm just saying, you should- oh." My voice became at least ten times lower in less than a second when I walked into the other room, and spotted Liam's mum there. She was with someone on the phone; great, I thought, this could be my chance to sneak out-

"Wait just one second," She said and I immediately knew she'd seen me as well, and wanted to greet me. Isn't that great.

"Hello, sweetheart," Karen said quietly as she walked over to me, and pulled me in a short, half-hug that ended as quickly as it begun, which I couldn't have been more happy about.
