Braces (Modern AU)

   Arthur Pendragon despised the dentist. So you could only imagine his reaction when his father, Uther Pendragon, told Arthur that he was going to the dentist in a couple weeks to get braces. Arthur wanted to protest, but couldn't because then he'd have to sit through a boring lecture about respect. So he didn't put up a fight and let destiny do what it wanted.

   Now Arthur Pendragon has braces, and his best friend, Merlin, is too amused.

   At some point in the afternoon, Merlin came over to visit Arthur. He busted in Arthur's room and leapt on his bed. Arthur resisted the urge to shove him off because his teeth hurt like a son of a bitch and made him feel bitter.
   "Are you feeling hungry? Because I have food you can eat." Merlin said.
   "I really am. The food I can eat is so disgusting, this'll be a nice break." Arthur said relieved. Merlin pulled out a case full of junk food including doritos, hard candy, popcorn and most important, cookies. Arthur scanned the bag and was about to pull out a rather large cookie. But before he could, Merlin took the bag away from reach.
   "Are you mad? You can't eat all of those! They'll ruin your braces." Merlin smugly pointed out. "Then what can I eat?" Arthur said frustrated. Merlin pulled out something from the discarded bag and threw something that meant to hit Arthur's face but missed. Arthur stuck his tongue out at Merlin and picked up the object that was thrown at him.
   Applesauce. Merlin gave him fucking applesauce. Arthur gave him a look that read, are you fucking kidding me? And Merlin chuckled a little. "Merlin, you know I hate applesauce. Why is this even a consideration?" Arthur said in disbelief. Merlin was trying to stop more laughter and Arthur just rolled his eyes. Applesauce can't be that bad, can it? Arthur shook his head, opened the package and ate some of the applesauce. Holy Jesus that was gross. Arthur started gagging and trying to spit it out. Merlin was laughing really hard now.
   "This is so disgusting! It's unfit for even the worst people!" Arthur said and tossed aside the cancer that is known as applesauce. Merlin was holding on to the bed post to prevent from falling over. "This isn't funny you idiot!" Arthur shouted. "Actually, it is funny." Merlin said breathlessly. Arthur glared at Merlin and over a few minutes, Merlin's laughter died out into a grin and Arthur lied down to calm his nerves. He just wasn't winning today.
   When Arthur felt more relaxed, he heard the sound of a bag opening. He turned to see Merlin with a bag of doritos he was struggling to get open. "You can't be serious!" Arthur cried. Merlin chuckled evilly and ate a chip. Arthur wanted to slap him. What made matters worse was when Merlin started obnoxiously eating it. He was chewing and kept making sounds like, "mmmm" or comments like, "this is so tasty!" And he even had the nerve to offer, "Do you want one?"
   Arthur harshly took the chips, got up and threw them out the window. Arthur watched as the chips fell down three stories and felt satisfied when he saw it fall to the ground. He sighed, but quickly stopped when his teeth began to ache again, and turned to go lay back in bed. Then his eye caught Merlin with the large cookie Arthur wanted earlier.
   Merlin caught Arthur staring at him with all the hatred in the world and stuck his tongue out at him. Arthur scoffed and sat on the bed next to Merlin whom was eating the cookie that was supposed to be Arthur's.
   Arthur wanted to kill him. "I hope you get diabetes." Arthur said with spite. "Honestly, I think I'll be helping you prevent it by eating this, big boy." Merlin shot back with no hesitation. Arthur put his hand on his chest, looking offended. "Excuse you, but I'm not fat!"
"I never said you were, Arthur."
"Yes you did, Merlin!"
"Did not!"
"Did so!"
"Whatever you say."
   Merlin continued to eat the cookie while Arthur pouted like a toddler. Merlin almost felt bad and decided to torture him further.
   "Do you want a piece?" Merlin jokingly asked. Arthur gave Merlin a look of murder, "Yes, I really do. But I can't or I'll be in more pain than I am right now!" Arthur whined. Merlin snickered and went back to eating the cookie in such a way to make Arthur jealous.
   Arthur wanted the cookie. Even a little bit would suffice. He was going to get that goddamn cookie. His teeth aches and braces be damned. When he saw Merlin break off a piece to erotically eat to make the other jealous, Arthur gave his friend the doll eyes in hopes for that piece. Merlin held out the cookie piece in Arthur's reach inviting him to take it. Arthur smiled brightly, showing off his red braces and tried to take the cookie, but Merlin threw back his hand. Arthur frowned in disappointment while Merlin put the piece in his mouth.
   Arthur sighed and made a risky move. Merlin had the piece in between his teeth and not entirely in his mouth, so Arthur tried to grab it, but Merlin stopped his hand by grabbing it. Arthur went with the stupidest move now.
   With Merlin's hand, Arthur pulled him down to his level and tried to take the cookie with his mouth. Keyword=Tried. Arthur was a little quick and uncoordinated and accidentally pressed his lips on Merlin's. This was a mistake, but oh well. Merlin would know where he was going, right? But if Arthur pulled away, he wouldn't get another chance like this for a long time. He kept telling himself to grab the cookie and go, but Merlin pulled away, with the cookie to Arthur's dismay, and spit the cookie out. Arthur was put in an awkward situation for a second before, to his surprise, Merlin came back to the kiss and deepened it. Arthur would be lying if he said he wasn't surprised, but he wasn't about to argue.
   Arthur has kissed people before, but none felt as right or fantastic as this. Arthur could taste the sweetness from the cookie and even a little salt from those doritos earlier. The again, it could be Merlin's personality, but who knows?
   Arthur moved closer and held Merlin's other hand. Merlin was pretty good at this. He knew what he was doing and it felt so good that Arthur could've swore he moaned a little.
   Merlin wanted to take it a step further and test the waters a bit. He used his tongue for permission to enter his mouth. Arthur let him in and Merlin smiled into the kiss.
   Arthur's face was a deep red. This went way better than he first thought it would. That is until Merlin swept his tongue across Arthur's braces and made his teeth ache. Arthur pulled away to give his teeth a break for a moment.
   During Arthur's break, both took the time to realize what they have just done. There was an awkward silence, until Merlin broke it.
   "Did I hurt your teeth?" Merlin asked with genuine concern. Arthur thought on how to respond; "Yeah, but it's alright. It didn't hurt too much though." Arthur answered.
   "Sorry." Merlin said. "My teeth aren't in pain anymore. And you didn't-" Arthur was cut off by Merlin who said, "No, I'm sorry I kissed you without knowing for sure you wanted to. I knew you tried to steal food from my mouth but I don't think you meant to..." Merlin trailed off. Arthur looked serious now.
   "Don't worry about it. If I wanted you to stop, I would have stopped you." Arthur reassured. Merlin nodded, "It's good I didn't push you against your will. I'll make sure to never do it again-" Merlin promised, but Arthur looked a little disappointed "-Unless I know for a fact you want to do it." Merlin finished after seeing Arthur's reaction.
   Merlin took hold of Arthur's hands, smiled and asked, "Want to try that again?" Arthur smiled. "Hmm. I think I need something first." Arthur said after a moment of thought. "Oh? And what would that be?" Merlin curiously asked. Arthur stared at something on the side of the bed, and Merlin stared in the same direction to see the cookie piece. "Not a chance, clotpole." Merlin answered. "Oh come on!" Arthur groaned and Merlin laughed.
   "You're lucky I love you." Arthur said leaning closer to Merlin. "I really am, aren't I?" Merlin said proudly. Both laughed and kissed once more. The second time much better than the first. Arthur never did get the cookie, but at least he got a boyfriend. And that would have to do for now.
