Then the war began. Man, was that messy.

'But redhead sure did a good job.' She mused. 'This place is pretty nice.'

Of course 'redhead's' identity as the Akatsuki leader — until the new guy showed up — was a secret right up until his death. Of course she knew due to her contacts, who supplied her with information in exchange for bounties she collected.

That's also how she met Kakuzu, formally of Takigakure.

It was brief, a few grunts here and there along with her failed attempt at befriending him. The two were miraculously hired to work side by side on a mission — she assumed it was during his free time, as no infamous red and black cloak was worn. In the end, all he did was just trail behind her while she did most the work and he took most the pay.

She heard a good ten years later that he'd been killed by some konoha shinobi, but she didn't really care. During her years as a freelancer, she made sure to stay well away from not only Akatsuki members but other missing-nin.

Besides one she was hired to kill, of course.

Other than that, her job as a bounty hunter was pretty carefree. No attachments and no restrictions. It was perfect for her.

"I should pick up some milk on the way home." She thought aloud, walking through the backstreets of Amegakure, nearing her destination.

Thank god she had mastered hiding her chakra signature long ago or else she'd be found already.

Amegakure was a very hostile place, it was nothing like it used to be. With no ruler of any kind, the place was currently at civil war. Some shinobi or whatever wished to knock the current ruler off his throne, and this current ruler was just some nobody who appointed himself.

Not only that but the place was crawling with thugs and bandits. With the whole 'world war' thing going on, there was almost no shinobi in the Ame to keep the peace and it quickly fell to ruin. The whole village had fallen apart due to one terrorist organisation's stupid war.

The Fourth Great Shinobi World War, a long title for a long war. Five years in the making, the shinobi alliance had been fighting against a common threat.

Some dude in a mask.

She didn't know his name, she never bothered to ask. It wasn't her business. All she was here for was to get in, grab a couple scrolls and get out. Nice and easy. This mask guy could destroy the whole world for all she cared; it wasn't her problem.

"Where is the damn thing?" She bit on her lip slightly, bending over to dig through the documents.

She grabbed a particular one, unravelling and reading it.

'These are plans to Kumogakure's defence system?' She smirked slightly. 'Naughty naughty Ame, you shouldn't be snooping on your allies.'

Still, it didn't concern her. So she tossed it aside and moved on. "Here you are." She allowed a small grin of victory when she found what she was looking for. "Now, I can finally get out of here."

She scanned over it for a moment, picking up keys words like Jinchuuriki and Konohagakure.

'Does Ame want Konoha's jinchuuriki?' She continued reading. Musing, 'Apparently they do..'

Again she discarded the information, it wasn't her problem. Stuffing it into her cloak, she didn't bother resorting the pile, simply walking off. There was no need.

'I should also pick up some eggs, and herbs. Can't run out of them.'

Within minutes she had left Ame in her dust, the village still oblivious to the woman who had stolen something that could cost them everything. If the scroll ended up in the alliance's hands, they would no doubt turn on Amegakure.

"I wonder what Katsuko-san is going to do with it." She couldn't help but wonder, shrugging. Whatever her employer did with the information was their business.

'Now.' She treaded through the forests, ideally pushing back her hood to allow the wind to tussle through her ocean coloured hair. 'What should I have for dinner? Maybe stew, stew is always nice.'

A sudden sharp pain raced up her foot, causing her to lift up and grab it.

"Mother fu-" She sucked in deep, eyes watering. "Stupid bloody toe!"

Clumsiness was not something new she experienced. However, seeing strange men lying dead on the floor was.

She prodded him lightly with her good foot. He groaned.

'Correction, half-dead.'

"Hey buddy?" She bent down to his level, shaking him lightly. "You awake?"

No response other than muffled groans, she gripped his cloak — it was purple, tattered and stained dark red with dried blood — and turned him over, exposing his scarred face.

'How did he get these?' She found herself wondering before shaking away the thought. It wasn't her place to pry, especially at a time like this.

She reached out, lightly touching his cheek. "Are you okay?"

He jolted upwards, causing her heart to leap from her chest. He had one eye opened, and it was blood red. With strange black markings around a red pupil. His eye seemed to spin.

She simply stared at him, eyes like saucers as she gaped. Completely lost on what to do. His expression matched her own, expect he only had one eye.

"Ah.." She began, unsure on what to say.

Apparently that wasn't necessary as he collapsed immediately. He left her even more confused.

"..ok?"

She shook away her confusion, staring down at him with slight hesitation before sighing. She bent down to lift him up. And with the man — Uchiha? She assumed Uchiha — slung over her shoulder, she casually walked off.

'Now...what can I have the stew with? Maybe some toast, oh! Chips would be nice too.'

She wouldn't realise until later just who she had saved. Not that she really cared.

There is no Rinnegan so

There is no Pein, only Nagato, who still "killed" Yahiko but never used the Rinnegan to kill all of Danzō's  ROOT agents which would have forced him to use Yahiko's body and become Pein.

Obito only has one eye and that is his original sharingan.

Instead of three days the war took place over five years. With many villages suffering grave losses. What they have lost exactly will be revealed over time.
