Sophie pulled open her locker, ready to slam it shut should there be another stinky life-form inside, but didn't have to, the only irregularity being a small black box. She was just about to open it when she heard a distinctly accented voice call her name from behind. She turned – still clasping the box tightly in her fingers – to see the already expected, (swoon worthy), teal eyes.
"Hey Fitz," she grinned up at him, hoping she wasn't blushing, "whatchya doing here?"
He gave a joking pout, "I came to see you. Is that not allowed now?"
"You're fine, uh, it's fine, I don't care, I mean, I do care," she was mentally kicking herself for her stupidity at this point, "everything's good. What's up?"
He flashed his movie-ready smile, "I wanted to know if you'd like to come to Everglen after school. Biana, Keefe, and I are playing base-quest, and we need a fourth."
She grinned up at him, "Okay, I'll be there about fifteen minutes after school. I doubt Grady and Edaline will mind me spending time with you guys." It was then that Fitz noticed the box she was still holding.
His eyebrows rose, "What's that?"
"I don't know," she said slowly, "I was about to open it when you showed up."
He chuckled, "Ahh, so it's my fault you haven't opened the mysterious box yet."
"That's not what I meant. You want to see what's inside?"
He nodded enthusiastically. With that, Sophie pried off the lid of the box to see a teal cuff covered in delicate embroidery. She turned it over, and words appeared, Fitz's name. "What is-" It was then she realized exactly what she was looking at. A crush cuff.
The confused look on her face was replaced with a blinding smile as she turned back to face him. Fitz looked nervous as she asked "Did you get this for me?"
They stood in silence for a few seconds, Fitz seemed to be fabricating an answer to her question. "Sophie, I don't know how to tell you this, but, I didn't get you that bracelet." Her heart seemed to plummet into her stomach. "I think someone's trying to play a trick on you."
Sophie knew all too well who that someone was.

"Keefe! I am going to kill you!" Sophie stalked down the hallway, ignoring stares all around her to focus on the only head that mattered at the moment. Her footsteps closed the gap between them rapidly, and in a few seconds she was face to face with Keefe Sencen.
"Wow, Foster, death threats? That's new." Sophie wanted to smack the trademark smirk off his stupid (albeit handsome) face. He waved the air between them, "That's some pretty strong rage radiating from you. How'd I tee you off so much this time?"
She scowled at him, "Like you don't know."
"I really don't. Care to clue me in?"
"Don't pretend like you didn't put that package in my locker," she said, clenching her jaw.
"What package?" The more confused he looked, the more annoyed she got.
"The package with the," she lowered her voice, "crush cuff in it." Sophie thought she saw a touch of jealousy flit across his features, but it was quickly replaced with a gleeful grin.
"The mysterious Miss. F has an admirer! Who is it? Valin?" He shot her a playful wink.
Sophie rolled her eyes. "The name on the cuff said Fitz, but he-" She was cut off by Keefe yelling down the hallway.
"Hey! Fitz!" Fitz turned at the sound of his name, and seeing who it was, jogged towards them.
"Hi guys. What-" Before he could finish, Keefe butted in.
"So, Fitzy, I hear you got our girl a crush cuff. Bold move, I approve."
Fitz looked miffed, "Fitzy?"
"Your new nickname," Keefe responded, acting like this fact was obvious, "What did you think?"
Fitz rolled his eyes and turned to Sophie. "Why did you have to tell HIM about it?"
She shrugged, "I thought he already knew. I mean, it does sound like one of his pranks." Fitz nodded.
"As much as I hate to say it, it wasn't me that put the box in your locker." Keefe said, "Which brings up an even bigger question. Who did?" At least he wasn't getting on her nerves anymore.
Sophie turned to Keefe, "I don't know, I figured you'd know the other school pranksters."
"Yeah, I do. Me. This isn't exactly a misbehaving school, if you haven't noticed." She had known the list wouldn't be the longest, but that short?
The chimes of Foxfire signaled class would be starting soon, cutting their conversation short. Sophie rushed off, but not before she heard Keefe call "I'll see what I can find!"
