CHAPTER 1

« TANYA COME DOWNSTAIRS NOW IT'S ALMOST 8 AM WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! », my mom screams from the kitchen.

I open my eyes very quickly and check my phone and see it's already 7:50 am so I jump up from my bed. Shit it's Monday and I'm going back to school, I totally forgot about my alarm. I get up and get ready very quickly. I put-on my ripped jean shorts, a simple white t-shirt, my Adidas superstars, put on some mascara and brush my long, black, wavy hair into a high ponytail. I brush my teeth, grab my phone and run downstairs.

« What were you doing girl?! Vacation is over now go back to school! I can't drive you I have to take your brother to the doctor because; guess what, he is sick, what a coincidence! » my mom says « Wait what? I can't walk to school it's 10 minutes from he-«, I start but my mom cuts me off « You should have thought about that earlier, now go or you will be even later! ».

I grab my bag and run outside on my way to school.

Oh and yeah, I'm Tanya Fergusson by the way (yeah I have Scandinavian origins). I'm 16 and I live in Pickering, a small, lost town near Toronto in Canada with my mom, my stepdad and my half-brother. My real dad? He lives in Texas in the US. He left us 10 years ago and I barely see him. I have always lived in Pickering and only know this city. My dream is to go live in New York and become a journalist but for now I have to hurry and get to school. I've been on vacation and had the best summer of my life honestly, and going back to reality is pretty hard, you know.

I keep on running. I'm out of breath when I arrive for my first class and stop at the classroom door. Everyone is looking at me and my teacher glares at me « Mrs Fergusson it's 8:10 am and you're late » « Yeah, as usual », a girl I hate adds from her seat rolling her eyes and making her friends laugh at me. « Milla, there is no need to add a comment » Milla Summers, the bitch of the school. We used to be best friends a few years ago but then she just stole my boyfriend in 6th grade and we have been enemies since that day. She never fails at dragging me down every time she can. She is the most popular girl at school and every boy falls for her. I have to admit, her beautiful ginger, long and wavy hair and her mysterious, brown eyes are popular with boys, it makes me a little jealous. She is still dating Jake Roy, my ex-boyfriend I dated for years. Everyone thought we would get married someday. We were like the perfect couple. He is very popular too. He is the captain of the hockey team. He is handsome but he turned into an asshole.

«Go to the principal's office to get an excuse note because you were late and then come back», my teacher continues in a rude way «But it's first day of school and I'm not that late! », I groan. «Yes and you are quite late, nice start to the New Year. Now go or I will kick you out of class», she adds. «Ok fine», I say and run to the office.

«Hi Tanya! » - «Good morning Mrs. Martins», I answer. Mrs. Martins is the sweetest and nicest person on earth. She has known me for a while now and she has helped me a lot. «Already late? », she laughs. «Yeah... I forgot it was the end of vacation and woke up kinda late», I say nervously. «Here is your note but be careful, it's only day 1! » - «Sure, thank you Mrs. Martins, have a nice day! »

I go back to class and take a seat next to Cameron my favourite and amazing best friend guy! We've been friends since 3rd grade since he left from LA to move here. I can tell him everything, he is definitely the best. « Hi Tanny! What's up? » He says looking at me with the cutest smile on earth « Hey Cam! Late as usual you know... » he both laugh and Mrs Grace (our teacher) starts to talk about stuffs I didn't really care about and there my first day at school starts.
