Chapter 17 To Tell the Truth
~David P.O.V
Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad to see Jessie, but she hasn’t talked to me in weeks. I don’t understand girls…
“Jessie what’s going on?”
“I can’t tell you David.”
“Listen if it’s something bad you can trust me jess I promise.”
“David please… just don’t.”
“You involved me now; obviously things are getting out of your control. Jessie… I’m here for you.”
Jessie begins to tell me all about what she knows about vampires; how sun doesn’t hurt them they can’t die from disease or cancer. How they only age 2 years every 30, and as soon as they reach 60 they stop aging and live until they decide it’s time to die, some vampires live so long they get to old for their body’s to handle and rabid aging occurs. Rapid aging is when all the years they lost as a human comes back to them and its puts them over the line of the living and un-dead making them die within 2 days and with no warning that rapid aging will occur. They can die from major blood loss, a hard blow to the head (this is of course not what a human would call a hard blow more like superman+ a grenade), and even the classic stake though the heart (although you can use anything to stab them through the heart with). She told me about royal vampire families and what little she knows about vampire history. Even seeing all the truth in her eyes it’s hard to believe a world like her could stay hidden for so long.
“Mason, I know it sounds weird and even if you think I’m crazy Please don’t tell anyone… please?”
“Jess, I would never.” I pull her close in my arms and stroke her soft hair. As I feel her bodies relax against mine we lower down to the bed and hold one another, our lips locked in embrace.

I wake up with masons lags wrapped around mine and his arms holding me close into his chest. As soon as I am fully conscious I hear a knock at the door. It’s about 1am by the look of the sky. Opening the door I look at Apollo and Mason.
“Jessie!” David yells, then sweeps me up in his arms and holds me tight. He only releases his grip we he sees half asleep David slowly lifting himself up still clinging to the covers.
“Well hurry up and get in here.”
As Apollo and Mason walk in mason slides his shirt on and stands up to greet them.
“Hello Jessie’s friends.” Masons eyes look dark and angry and Apollo notices so he replies for him and Mason.
“Hello, I’m Apollo and this young man is Mason.”
“It’s nice to meet you both.” I would thinks he’s being sincere if only he wasn’t in a death glaring contest with Mason. Just them being in the same room makes me feel uneasy.
“Did you tell him about us?” Apollo takes my hand and looks into my eyes. Even if I haven’t known him that long I can see when he is sincere and I can tell by his looks how he feels. I know he won’t judge me for my decision, so I decide it’s safe to tell the truth.
“Yes he knows everything.”
“Does he know the reason you stayed out and made us worry sick about you?” Then the whole reason I’m in this motel hits me. Quickly running to the window I throw back the curtain and look towards the street street where Steph was. A cloud of relief washes over me as I see she is no longer there and my stomach finely unknots.
“It’s a long story, but to sum it up… I think you two are in danger.” After I tell them everything about Steph and how she was acting I see Apollo’s eyes shift to something I’ve never seen in his eyes before… fear.
“What if she was after you Jess?”
“If I was the target she wouldn’t have staked out, I think she was waiting for you two.” As if on cue, knowing that this business is not his to know, he rises pulls me in a hug, says goodbye, then leaves.
“Jessie letting a human know about us is dangerous! What is he exposes us!”
“Mason leave me alone! I trust him!”
“He’s a human!”
“So?!?”
“Humans aren’t meant for our would Jessie.”
“So it’s ok to feed off of them but any further then treating them like food is forbidden! Like I was just food to you the night you ruined my life! Don’t worry mason I was just food!” I could see the hurt in his eyes and I don’t know if that was my goal but I’m happy he’s upset. With that I run out the door slamming it behind me. The cold hail slices my cheeks drawing thin lines of blood and the cold automatically makes my nose numb. I don’t want this life anymore. I don’t want to be royal; I don’t want to be alive. I should have died with my parents. Why do I have the right to live?
When my legs start cramping I take a seat in on a crate on the corner of an alleyway. I know masons right. Having humans involved is dangerous. I want David in my life, but he needs to know that if he accepts being by me, he’s always in danger, am I willing to risk his life…?
“Jessie?” I quickly turn around and look at my “friend”…
“Steph?”
“Yeah?”
“What are you doing here?”
“Following you.”
“Why?”
“You might already know Jessie, by how careful you were with giving me an address and everything. But if you really knew what I was after you wouldn’t have stayed in the same place.”
“You’re after mason?”
“No actually.”
“Then what Steph? Don’t play games with me.”
“You.” Her words hit my like a huge block of hail. I actually wish it was hail that hit me in the head; instead she had jumped after me and slung me back to the ground her body landing on top of me. I can feel her cold hands around my throat and glass stabbing into my back. I need to get out of this. For me and for Mason.
