Chapter 26 - Awake And Unfraid

She got stung and that the dreams that she's gotten for the past few days were her memories. It was because of that, she began to look at everything differently for a moment. She was a little star struck because all this time she was living with what she thought were fictional characters.

But then she remembered that she met James. James Dashner. He told her that she was supposed to be part of this world. She was supposed to be part of this story.

Newt's love interest.

She let herself smile at that. But that smile turned to a frown when it probably meant that she was supposed to fall for Newt.

She knew that she was feeling something different for the boy. She wasn't clueless and oblivious to her feelings. But then she felt sad because it meant it probably wasn't real. Her liking him was because she was supposed to. It was written in her system. And...it was probably written in Newt's system too.

(G/N) cursed herself. Of all the things she could be thinking, she was thinking of love and romance. There were more important things like saving this realm. In order to do that, she had to find the books. Then she was going to go back to the Realm of Stories. How that'll happen, she still doesn't know.

But that was her job, to find the books and save the realm. Save everyone.

(G/N) tried to sit up. Her body felt a little stiff but that was probably because she wasn't able to use it for four days. After a moment, she decided to get off the cot and try to stand. She didn't realize how much she missed using her body again.

It was then she heard footsteps. She thought that they might just be Clint and Jeff. But when they opened the door, she saw that it wasn't.

"Minho? Newt?"

The two were shocked to see her. She laughed at their reactions. Since they were so shocked they couldn't move, she was the one who took the first move and hugged the both of them.

She thought she'd be weird when she'd see them again. They were fictional characters but they're as real as her. She was also her friend.

"You two look like you've seen a ghost." Newt looked a little pale but Minho was able to recover.

"When did you wake up?" Minho asked.

"Just now."

"Should- should you be standing?" Newt said.

"I'm fine," she told them. They didn't look convinced there. "Really I am. So Minho, when will I start running again?"

"You have to rest first."

"I've rested enough for four days."

"Give yourself at least two weeks to recover," Minho said.

"One week," she bargained.

"Nine days."

"Fine," she accepted.

"Glad to know you didn't change," Minho laughed.

(G/N) smiled but she didn't want to tell him that she did change. She had her memories back. She found out the girl she was before all this. She has certainly changed.

(G/N) noticed that during this time, Newt was silent. He still looked pale and didn't look too well. Was he coming here to get a check up?

"Hey Newt," her hand handed on his arm, "are you alright?"

Newt's eyes widened at the contact. She wondered if she did anything wrong. "I'm- I'm fine." The stuttering was new.

"He was just stressed," Minho said. "With you and everything else in the Glade."

"Oh I'm sorry." She stepped closer to hug him. "I'm sorry for worrying you Newt."

"You didn't." (G/N) pulled away. Newt realized he said something wrong."I mean you didn't mean to. I'm just glad you're alright."

Neither noticed that Minho slipped away at that point to give them privacy.
