The man named Dr. Janson didn't reply and looked at the unconscious girl with amusement mixed with irritation. (G/N) wondered what the girl did. She looked like she caused a lot of trouble for them to heavily sedate her.
"(Y/N)," Dr. Janson said. (G/N) couldn't understand why that name sounded familiar. "When I'm through with you, you won't remember anything. I wasn't supposed to be your doctor but Chancellor Paige specifically asked for me after that stunt you pulled."
"I don't think she can hear you," (G/N) crossed her arms at him. She noticed that they couldn't see her. It was like she was just a ghost but she didn't mind.
"Remind me," Dr. Janson said, "what's going to be her new name?"
At that moment, everyone in room except for the unconscious girl looked straight at (G/N) at the eye. "(G/N)," the female said. "Her new name is (G/N)."
(G/N) jumped when she saw them looking at her. Then her eyes landed on the unconscious girl and found out why she looked familiar.
It was her.
Her old name was (Y/N).
(Y/N).
She was (Y/N).
Before she could open her mouth, she was engulfed in a bright light. She covered her eyes to keep herself from being blinded. A second later, the light was gone. (G/N) uncovered her eyes and saw that this time she was inside a room.
The room was designed for a girl. There were ballet pointes hanging on the wall. Dresses scattered on the floor. Flats and heels on the side of the room. Although the size was small, perhaps the girl living in the room was just a child.
There were a bunch of portraits on the cabinet drawer. (G/N) went towards it and saw the pictures of a little girl. There were some solo pictures of her but most were with her family or a blonde girl.
(G/N) recognized the girl, it was her once again. Her eyes landed on the happy family, her stomach twisted at the sight. She couldn't help but feel as if it was wrong. But it also felt right.
The door bursted open and (G/N) saw a little girl tugging in a dark haired boy holding a guitar in her room. The girl looked about ten while the boy looked like he was just a two years older.
"I don't think I can help (Y/N)," the boy said.
"Yes you can Stephen," she said stubbornly.
"Big brothers aren't exactly someone you go to for picking dresses. I can play you a song instead."
"You just have to pick the prettiest one. The red one or the yellow one?"
Stephen contemplated for a while and his finger landed on (Y/N).
"Why are you pointing at me?"
"You said pick the prettiest one. There's no one prettier than my wittle sister."
"You're right," she said. "I shouldn't go to big brothers for advice for dresses."
"Told you."
(G/N) laughed at the siblings. They were cute. Then she realized that that was supposed to be her...and her big brother.
"Stephen," she said his name. "I had a big brother. He's Stephen."
The siblings left the room since they were being called by their parents. (G/N) decided to follow them. She wanted to see her parents.
While little her and Stephen ran out to hug their parents, (G/N) stayed where she was and watched the scene. It looked like the two just got back from a trip. They were carrying luggages with them.
"Did you even let go of that guitar while we were gone? When we left you were holding it. Now we're back and you're still holding it," their father laughed. Stephen looked like their dad while she resembled their mom.
"We're still eating out tonight right?" (Y/N) asked their mom.
"Of course. Have you picked out what you're going to wear?"
"Still working on that."
"I'll help you darling. We'll just take our luggage in our room."
(G/N) watched from a distance as the family were together. They were a beautiful and happy family. She felt an ache in her heart. This was her life before the Maze, before the Glade. It was so beautiful.
"You're right, it was beautiful," their mother said.
(G/N) jumped when she saw that the family was now looking at her. It was just like with Dr. Jansons and the others earlier. But unlike the cold stare that they gave her, her family was looking at her with sadness and pity.
"But it didn't last," Stephen continued.
They disappeared like dust before her eyes, leaving her alone.
