Hands fidget. Heart pulses.
The chick embryo sits safe in its shell
for now.
It does not know what awaits it.Does it know anything at all?
Crack. Layers peeled back.
Cow, pig, dog, cat.
Are they really so different?
Humans.
What lies ahead? 1-3 years. Nervous
system fully formed.
Yet she still sits in a shell. Metal bars.
Forever laying.
Never sleeping.
A life never lived. Maybe
it would be better this way. Maybe
what we are about to do
is better than the life she
would have had.
Humans? Animals.
Yolk glows. Heart pulses.
Veins spread, reaching out.
For the advancement of education. 4 days
old. 4 days
of growing.
Somites. Allantois.
Eye. Brain.
Heart.
Scissors.
Like cutting paper.
Heart pulses.
Cut.
Heart stops.
