Day 1

"They're gone... All of them," she said almost storming through the door.

"What do you mean they're gone?" I asked puzzled.

"I was in class talking to Greg when: poof- gone. Greg and all the rest of 'em too," She explained.

"Well, where'd they go?" Not even mildly concerned. Greg was a douche; same as the rest of the scum Nadine spoke to.

"Hell if I know! Even Mr. Barrow disappeared. And I'm not talking got up and left, I mean "poof" into thin air," she went on. Nads was certainly one to exaggerate but this was a bit much. "it was weird, you should've seen it. Why weren't you there?"

"It's Friday" I tell her.

"Right! Friday, How could I forget high as a kite Fridays," she says dramatically waving her hands in the air.

"You're welcome to join, as always," I tell her as I take a drag. "look Nads, I don't know what you're so upset about; now you won't have to break up with Greg,"

"I was going to do it sooner or later..." she trailed off curling her lips into a sly smile and taking the joint from between my fingers. "but I suppose your right- I dodged a bullet."

"You think they're all gone? Like in town too?" I ask unable to mask the excitement in my tone.

"You don't have to sound so smug about it," she chided than lifted the joint to her lips taking the smoke in deep and blowing it in my face. "Just because you don't have any competition doesn't mean you'll get lucky."

"Maybe not right this second but if they're gone forever, my odds get higher," I tell her with a wink. "A world without men... God, Imagine it: that's my heaven."

Nadine just laughs and nods; she knows me too well too disagree.

Day 2

"Hey, what are you doing today?" I say into the phone as I pack my laptop into my back pack.

"Well I was supposed to go to a movie with Greg tonight but that fell through," She says.

"Obviously. I was going down to Starbucks to hack into my parent's accounts again. Care to join me?" I ask.

"What the hell, I don't have anything else to do," she answers.

"Cool, I'll meet you there in twenty."

Nadine was cool. I've always been an odd duck, when you factor the bitter, feminine lesbian in, I don't have many friends. I'm still trying to figure out why Nads still hangs around. I mean preppy, hot, drama queen... doesn't really fall under my typical gravitational crowd. But once you get past the initial differences, she's really kinda sweet and eccentric. Sometimes she doesn't have a filter and says really off the wall things- I think it's cute but other people... not so much. That's probably why she doesn't have many friends... that and she gets a lot of guys tailing her because she's something else to look at.

Anyways, It's nice to have her around, especially since my family is all the way in Oklahoma and doesn't really care what I do with my life. But, they let me take their money, so that's a plus.

I pack a couple candy bars and chip bags in with the computer and sling the bag over my shoulder as I walk out the door. It's not much but it'll last me for most of the day, and I'm sure Nads will get tired of sitting at the same table for more than a couple hours and we'll grab some real food... better pack my wallet too.
