It was tuesday, and it had been two days since we dropped the newly weds off at the airport.
Jenna had called me a couple of times already but they had so much fun stuff to do so we didn't talk for long. I had to admit I missed having her and Tyler around the house though.
This night, I sat in a café with a couple of school books, I had to fly back to Columbus soon to do an exam and I wanted to be well prepared.
"Excuse me miss, but we're closing in ten" the server apologized while coming up to my table with a dishcloth in his hand.
"Oh I'm so sorry, I'll be on my way" I said and collected my things. I looked out the window to see it was already completely dark, I didn't realize how fast time went when you were studying.
I walked out of the café with my jacket tightly wrapped around me and my bag in one hand. On my way back to the apartment I felt the hunger growl in my stomach, so I stopped by a chinese restaurant and ordered some Pad Thai to go. I hadn't had time to go grocery shopping yet and Tyler had pretty much emptied the fridge like a starving person before they left.
"Thank you" I said to the guy behind the counter when he called out the food, and payed him. I grabbed the bag with take out food and walked out of the door to the sound of the ringing bell above it.
It was only a five minute walk back to the apartment, and the smell of food made me walk even faster.
Suddenly I felt a tug in my left arm, where I carried my bag. I turned around, and before I knew it I was pressed against the brick wall behind me, with an arm pressed against my throat to hold me in place.
"Give me the bag" a dark voice said and grabbed it with so much force I almost got thrown to the ground. The person had a dark hoodie on, and a bandana covering most of his face. I stared into his light green eyes in shock, and before I could speak he was gone, and so was my bag. I looked around me in panic, and then came the tears. I sat down on the ground leaning against the brick wall and covered my face with my shaking hands.
My delicious Pad Thai was scattered over the side walk, since he tried to grab that bag too but failed.
Then I remembered, I had just used my phone to check the time, so I had put it in the back pocket of my jeans. Thank god it wasn't in my bag, but my wallet and keys were still in it.
I couldn't call Jenna, she would panic and take the first flight home from Hawaii. I couldn't do that to her and Tyler.
I searched in my contact list until I found Josh's number, and I hesitated for a while before pressing the green button.
A few signals passed, I hoped he wasn't asleep already. It wouldn't be like him but you'll never know.
"Hello?" I heard the tense voice on the other line, and I completely lost it.
I started crying into the phone, not able to get a single word out.
"Lexie? What's wrong?" He asked worried, his voice softened drastically.
"I-I just... I just got robbed" I said in between sobs. It just hit me that I was lucky I didn't get physically hurt.
"Oh my... where are you?"
I looked around me to see where I was, and I saw a Target on the other side of the street.
I told Josh where I was, and I could hear a door shut through the phone.
"I'm on my way" he said. "Don't go anywhere"
I hid in the shadows, scared of everything that moved until I saw a pair of headlights coming down the street, parking a few steps down the road. I instantly recognized Josh's car, so I walked up to it.
