Dear Writer

This is a poem I wrote addressed to us writers on the reason we write.

Dear Writer, why do you write ?
Do you intend to let out
A longing for expression
that is rooted deep down in you?

Do you act in
response to the urge to put your random thoughts on the page
Even when you are unsure of the next words.

              You write.
Like a devout religious
Having faith and hope that the words will flow out and will
Convey your intent and make sense.

Do you write for the comments, the likes, reads and follows ?
Do you write for approval
Structuring your sentence to please rather than to convey your message?

Dear writer, have you forgotten those nights you couldn't sleep because you woke up from the discomfort of sleeping with those thoughts in your head.

You scribbled away with no spell checkers, without listening to the evil editor inside of you.
You wrote with passion and zeal.
Love for words and the smell of ink on paper motivated you.

You wrote regardless of who was going to see it.
You wrote with reckless abandon till your hands were sore but the thoughts kept coming so you wrote the more.

Even when no one labelled you a writer you wrote. For you it was only about writing and the satisfactory feeling that completion brings.

Your worst enemy was procrastination.
It bedeviled you and tried to dampen your adorable dexterity.
But you never gave up.
You wrote nevertheless.
It won severally but you never gave up.

You always came back strong.
Having marathon writing sessions as a sign of liberation from the devil of procrastination
You wrote. You write.

You wrote because you loved writing. It brought joy and pure bliss.
Dear writer, why do you write?
What is your why?

Thanks for reading.
