It had been 6 months since he had last seen his mate or his sister. He hadn't known at the time that agreeing with Kenelm and allowing him to walk towards death would cause both his sister and his mate to turn from him, but he didn't regret his decision. It may have been selfish to want the best for his sister and mate, but he still would have made the same decision had he been given it again.
He knew that the girls were still alive, which was a relief. Every supernatural creature that they recruited had told him as much. He smiled slightly on the inside when he heard the news, knowing that despite their anger towards him, they wouldn't cause him to worry too much.
They did a good job when they recruited. We already had almost all of the supernatural creatures that needed to be involved. It seems that Jalyana thought it may be best to wait to involve the humans and the angels, seeing as how they were the gods creations. And out of all the creatures that walked this earth, the humans were the weakest in body. They had strong spirits to make up for it, which would be needed later in the game. The problem with having so many recruits came the needs. They needed housing and food supply. Some of the creatures fed off of other creatures, so Blaz had to strategize to keep those creatures separate to try to help lower the tensions, which were already running high. He had recruited the help of a few nearby packs and covens to help house the creatures that were coming by the droves. For some reason Jalyana had seen fit to name Washington as the gathering ground for the war. He knew this because he could see a few creatures that chose to stay in the shadows.
He had had a sentry that had a run in with one of them, and was able to chat. The creatures that chose the shadows did so because they didn't trust him. They would only trust the girl who had told them. He had shaken his head, and knew that they would only come for Jalyana, so he would just have to let them roam until she came back.
He was thankful that the vampires had been the ones to recruit the witches. While the vamps were on great terms with the witches, werewolves were on even worse terms, and Blaz didn't want to think about Astrid and Jalyana going near them.
With the fights that were breaking out between groups, Blaz was getting a headache. He had done his best to keep groups that hated each other separated, but there simply wasn't enough land to go around at the moment. He was soon going to have to go to another group nearby and ask them to help house more creatures. So far all the groups had been eager to help, especially when they heard about the coming war. Blaz tried to sound pretty clear about what was coming and how they would best be able to handle it, basically trying to play leader so no one would steal the role, although it was truly Jalyana's role, she would handle it best, but it seemed consensus that no one wanted to lead this war.
He sighed as another fight broke out beside him. He was having such a nice walk.
"What's this fight about?" He asked a nearby person, sitting on the porch.
"Something about he stole his spot."
"So, nothing important?" Blaz said, knowing he looked relieved and the man chuckled. He was an older gentleman, smoking on his pipe, and Blaz suddenly recognized that this man was one of the elders.
"I suppose not. You're doing a good job trying to keep the peace Alpha. I know this hasn't been easy on you." Blaz shook his head.
"Maybe not, but it needs to be done." He turned back towards the two that were fighting and cringed when they knocked over a chair and table. "I can only hope that they will be more peaceful when Jalyana comes back." The man narrowed his eyes.
"You think that she will come back and lead all of us in this war."
"Yes. I do." Blaz said confidently.
"But she left our pack when we needed her." Blaz shook his head at the old man's statement.
"No. She left because she needed to process what was going on. So did my sister. The best way for them to do that was recruit the other supernatural creatures. It was better for her to do it before we mated so that we wouldn't have to deal with the whole separation piece, and one of us could be there for the pack. I was hurt when she left to sir, more than the rest of you were, but I understand now why she did it. She wasn't just hurt. She was trying to help the pack." The man smiled and nodded.
"Good man. I'm glad that you realized it, I was afraid you would be bitter, but you've turned wise since this happened."
"I'm a changed man." Blaz smiled, then turned to see that the fight had broken up. He nodded his approval. "I'm glad that's cleared up. Now if you'll excuse me, I have work to do." The older man bowed his head slightly before going back to his pipe, and Blaz finished his walk down the path, entering the Alpha house.
He had decided that he wouldn't live there until his mate and sister got back. He knew it wasn't a requirement, but wanted to enjoy the privilege with the two people he was closest to in his life. His parents were still living there, and opened the door.
"Blaz, I'm glad you made it." His mom said, a sad smile passing over her features. She missed her youngest, but had understood why she had left.
"Me too mom. I'm just here to get some paperwork done. I'll head right up to the office and stay out of your hair."
"Would you please sit for some lunch?" He turned and saw the hesitance on her face. She was nervous, because she missed him, and his little sister. She wasn't supposed to be out of school yet, let alone out of the house having adventures. He took a deep breath in before letting it out and smiling.
"Of course I would like some lunch mom. Thank you." She smiled brightly looking herself for a moment.
"I'll just whip up a sandwich for you then. Egg salad ok with you? It's freshly made!" She said, jumping into action. He realized that she was missing her children, missing being a mom.
"Of course mom, you know I love your egg salad." She finished the sandwich and brought it to the table. He had only taken a bite when there was a commotion coming from outside. He sighed and placed the sandwich on the plate. "Mom, I promise I'll be right back to eat it." He called. She just stood at the kitchen window, staring outside, motionless. He glanced worriedly at her before opening the door and going outside.
She was there. Right in front of him. Both of them were. His mate had a signature smirk planted on her face, all the creatures laughing and attempting to talk to her, managing to talk over each other. She looked powerful, almost as if she had gained more confidence, if it was even possible. She radiated it, she had fallen into the role of a leader without a second thought.
What caught, kept him in place, were her eyes. They still radiated sadness, like she hadn't quite gotten over the loss of her brother, she was simply doing the best she could with what she had. He knew that only he could help her though. Because that's what mates did. They helped each other.
He looked to the side and saw his sister. She wasn't a baby anymore that was for certain. She had lost weight and leaned up, since he had last seen her. It was obvious that being a rogue had taken its toll on her, and it wasn't necessarily a bad one. She was more muscular, and more confident. Being around Jalyana had helped, he was certain. She had grown up, obviously seeing things he had never wanted her to see, but she had needed to see. And he was proud.
It was Astrid that looked over first, a smirk similar to the one his mate was wearing now spread across her face.
"Well if it isn't my lovely brother. Mighty glad to see you again."
