Getting Back at 'Mr Right'
Use Somebody
Confused by what Kaira was droning on about, I felt compelled to ask her. “Bestie, what on Earth are you on about?”
She exhaled a long breath and looked at me like I was an idiot. “Who is James’ best friend?”
“Lucas, you know that?” I was thoroughly confused.
“Yes, and what was one of the points on the list?”
I racked through my brain, trying my hardest to remember all the points on our revenge list. I could remember one, but it didn’t make sense to the situation, so I just gave Kaira a dumb look, hoping she would catch on. Again, she exhaled a long breath and dug around in her bag, before pulling out a folded piece of scrawled across paper.
“Here” she said and handed me the paper.
Interested, I took the paper from her and unfolded it, glancing down at its contents. Luckily for me, it was the list (why was she carrying it around?). Scanning through it, I finally found the idea she was suggesting I initiate soon and looked up at her with a small smile, feeling some glee that I may make James’ day that little bit more frustrating.
“Make him jealous with Lucas, right?” I told her, catching on.
A smile slowly made its way onto her lips and she just stayed silent.

One half hour long, ‘singing’ Kaira filled car journey later and we were back at the apartment building, making our way towards the clear glass doors. Kaira smiled politely at the doorman and walked through, me following behind. She called the lift and turned to face me.
“How would you feel about asking Lucas on a date?” She asked me curiously, raising her eyebrows.
“Weird to put it simply. What if he said no?” I bit my lip and went through the many possibilities in my mind.
“Like he’d say no to you” She responded, rolling her eyes dramatically.
A loud ‘ping’ sound rang from in front of us before metal doors slid open, revealing the inside of the elevator. We stepped in and pressed the button which read PH and waited for the doors to close. Irritation radiated from both of us as the repetitive jingle sounded throughout the small space, trapping us in its annoyance. Let’s just say we were glad to escape.
After entering the apartment, I took my mobile out of my bag before throwing it on the side. I was walking back and forth in front of the sofa, biting my lip and shaking my hands. Kaira noticed my nerves and gave me an incredibly tight hug.
“Just do it Milly! Think how annoyed James would be” She reminded me, wiggling her eyebrows and smiling at me, happy with her idea.
I unlocked my phone and went to my contact list before selecting ‘dial’ on Lucas’ name. Holding the phone up to my ear, I thought of how James’ face would look when he found out about our date, and it gave me encouragement for what I was about to ask one of his closest friends.
“Hello?” I heard his voice ask.
“Hey Lucas, it’s Milly” I tried to sound as happy and confident as I could.
“Oh hey Mills! Y’okay?” His voice turned to worry as he thought about why I was ringing him; he obviously thought I was upset and needed someone to talk to.
“Yeah, I’m great. I was just wondering if you wanted to go out Friday night?” I bit my lip awaiting his reply, it was silent. “Forget it, you’re probably busy-”
“Sounds great -” I could hear the smile in his voice “- but what about James?”
My heart stopped. “What about him?”
“Mills, he’s my best friend and he loves you. How could I possibly go out with you?” Really? He was concerned for James’ feelings? I scoffed.
“He should have thought about that before he did what he did shouldn’t he?” I took a deep breath. “Look Lucas, I like you, and I would like to see you on Friday. If you don’t want to see me-” He cut me off.
“I’ll pick you up at 7. See you Friday Milly” He cut off the call and I set my phone down on the table, a smile on my face.
Sitting on the couch, Kaira had a look of pure impatience set on her face and she stared at me waiting for me to speak. I slowly sank back into the comfortable sofa and closed my eyes, letting her squirm; I loved teasing her. After about ten seconds, she hit me on the arm. Hard.
“Ow! God Kaira, strength!” I reminded her. She sometimes forgot her own strength.
“Oops, sorry” She smiled at me sheepishly before turning her expression into one of interest. “So, what did he say?”
“He’ll pick me up at seven” I told her, before smiling and looking down.
She leapt up off the couch and did a happy dance, clearly hyper. She screamed for Martina to grab some cosmos and join us in the living room, something she was obviously happy about, yet shocked at the same time. After walking into the room, Martina handed me my pink drink and Kaira hers. She sat down next to me and clinked her glass to my own, grinning widely.
“So, what’s the occasion Kaira?” She asked.
“My beautiful best friend Milly here” she waved over to me “has a date on Friday!”
“Oh, that’s brilliant Milly, it really is” Martina smiled at me and gave me a sideways hug, did she know everything that happened with James?
I smiled back at her and we chatted for a couple of hours, before I went back to my bedroom.

I had been in my room for about 20 minutes, working on some new designs for work, when my phone rang loudly from beside me. Picking it up, I looked at the caller I.D. and saw an unknown number. Curiosity getting the better of me, I answered confused.
“Hello?”
“Milly?” His voice made my blood boil, and I nearly put the phone down but decided against it.
“What do you want?” I asked him gritting my teeth; he had no right to call me.
“Please, just two minutes Mills, that’s all I ask” He sounded pained but I couldn’t care less, I didn’t want him calling me.
“I don’t want to talk to you James” I told him, and was about to hang up.
“Meet with me tomorrow Mills, please, I only need ten minutes and then you can leave. Please Mills, I’m begging you.”
I would have said ‘No, I never want to see your face again’ but I couldn’t, I was too interested as to why he wanted to talk to me. So after a few seconds, I found myself saying:
“Fine”
