Well, at least it’s all sorted out. Plus hopefully Andie was mostly joking when she said she and Dylan were gonna start emulating Dex and I.

Interestingly, he has just started kissing my neck, so I’m gonna go now.

Oh my god.

                Oh my god.

So even though we spent most of the day at my house yesterday, Dex got a text from his mom at like half eight telling him he had to sleep at home last night, but that – and I’m completely serious here – “Alex can stay over if he likes, as long as you’re safe”.

Dex started laughing and showed me the message and was like, ‘So I think it’s safe to say they know.’

And I went white and said, ‘Can we please never use the word “safe” again?’

I didn’t want to go because I was so mortified but Dexter convinced me by using guilt as his weapon. He was all, ‘Come on, they’ll be insulted now if you don’t come, they’ll think it’s their fault!’

                ‘This is so embarrassing.’

‘No it’s not, it’s funny. It might be embarrassing if we were actually having sex, but we’re not, so it’s cool. They were probably just being glib.’

‘Well it’s not like you can tell them we’re not having sex!’

Dexter blinked at me. ‘Do you want them to think we’re having sex?’

‘I don’t want them to think about our sex life, or lack thereof, at all!’

‘I can categorically assure you that they don’t.’

                I blinked at him. ‘Promise?’

But I still felt monumentally embarrassed when we walked into the house and his parents looked at him with that dry look all the Andersons seem to be able to do so well and said, ‘Mazel tov,’ flatly.

‘Were you ever planning to tell us,’ his mom added cynically, ‘or are we going to have to learn everything about you from your sister from now on?’

Dexter bowed his head in false penitence. ‘I was ashamed,’ he said sadly. ‘Alex took advantage of me after I broke up with Olivia.’

                ‘Hey!’ I cried, elbowing him.

Dexter grinned. ‘Or maybe I took advantage of him when he broke up with Gary. I can’t really remember the details. Anyway, it looks like I’m gay now.’ He shrugged. ‘Who knew?’

His mom rolled her eyes and he followed her into the kitchen, so I followed him.

‘What’s for dinner?’ he was asking, trying to get around her to see what she was cooking on the stove.

‘Dexter,’ his dad said long-sufferingly. ‘Come here a moment.’

Immediately distracted, Dex trotted over to his dad who, mortifyingly, handed him a packet of condoms.
