I couldn't help but feel a sense of pride building up in my chest as I watched Drew's men sparring outside, I'd ended training hours ago and yet there they were.
I slipped on a singlet and baggy sweatpants Alex had gifted me a couple of years ago before tying my hair up in a bun on the top of my head and leaving the room I so desperately wished for when I was younger. I used to think it would be worth it when I finally was able to sleep on the Beta tier of the house, but now as I recalled the memories of my family...of my brother I couldn't help but feel that none of it was worth losing everything and everyone.
Of course, Kale was never a great sibling, to my knowledge he wasn't even a great Beta but he'd tried to keep me from harm and I credited him for that.
I recalled the year that I went to high school for the first time, Kale of course was in his second year and my blonde hair stuck out like a lightening bolt on a clear day. Most of the girls I'd noticed had dyed, highlighted, bleached hair but my natural blond locks were a dead giveaway.
I was innocent, never seen battle nor hunted with the pack. I'd not matured much since Kale placed me in the bottom of the house and I could tell that most of the males at school thought this to be an advantageous moment for them.
The first day I was approached by multiple boys offering to walk me to class, carry my books and even buy me lunch. I, of course refused all of their offers and kept my head down out of respect for my family's rank.
There was one male in particular who couldn't leave me to my own devices however and he pestered me throughout the day. It wasn't until lunch time that I learned through observation that he was in my brother's grade and even was close with him.
"Dani! Over here!" He'd greeted me, waving me over to the table filled with high ranking lycan's , all except Cassie of course.
A wave of panic suddenly set in when Kale looked up abruptly from his lunch, glaring daggers at his friend.
"Come and sit with us." He offered as he walked over to me, I gulped in response and shook my head, not wanting to get him severely injured by my brother. He of course didn't like my answer and grabbed the top of my arm roughly, at the time I wasn't as thin and frail as I was when I'd left the pack so it didn't cause me much injury.
Kale, didn't like it one bit however and by the time we were halfway to the cafeteria table he had grabbed him by the collar of his shirt and thrown him into one of the empty table surrounding the center of the cafeteria.
"My sister is not a toy, Omega, and you will do kindly to remember that. The only reason we permit you to sit with us is because you show great strength, and if you'd like for that to continue then I suggest you sit down and leave Danielle to herself."
Kale picked him up from the floor and pushed him towards the table before turning back to me and nodding once, assuring that I was alright.
That was the last interaction I'd really had with my brother before he turned into something else, his image came before blood and his vanity clouded his thought process.
I couldn't blame him of course, having friends with the same mindset would invite trouble and torment into your life. Kale would never own to it, but it was the words of his friends which made him think the way that he did, as proven by the events of the night I'd left.
"Dani...are you alright?" Drew's voice broke recollection of memory and I turned to face him.
He was wearing a black shirt which seemed to be on it's last wear and a pair of gym shorts, his hair looked damp but it had a slight curl at the top which I never seemed to notice.
"Yes of course, I'm fine." I nodded in reassurance before he moved his head to the side, motioning for me to follow him.
We walked towards the office located up the stairs and close to his bedroom and I took notice of the changes he'd made since we arrived.
The picture frames which were placed along the side of the wall were gone, and instead he'd placed a few plants and bookshelves to cover the space. His chair which used to have rips in the back of it was replaced with a large velvet covered twirling chair and there was now a spot in which he kept his alcohol next to the chairs on the other side of his desk. Finally, the dark drapes which once hung behind his large chair were gone revealing the gorgeous bay window looking over the lands.
"Please, have a seat." He sat in his chair on the opposite side of the desk.
"Where shall we start?"
