"Scarlett?" A familiar voice squealed from the distance. I turned my head back in the direction to see my best friend Ava Greene.

"Ava you're here!" I screamed as I opened my arms for a hug.

"Yeah totally! You forgot to call me, I came back like yesterday." she explained with a curious look on her face. "Well it's okay." she smiled anyway, "I'm just happy you're going to the same school as me!" she hugged me even tighter, "Finally!"

Ava has become my best friend over the span of two weeks. When I first moved here this summer, my parents had introduced me to her and we quickly became close. We had only spent two weeks together and I knew I could trust her for the most part. She wasn't like anyone else I had ever met. But later this summer she went on vacation with her family and had only gotten back yesterday.

I was recovering all summer. If you could even call it that, but that's what my parents said I needed anyway. Hence the main reason why they introduced Ava to me. They said I 'needed a little help getting out there.' Whatever that means.

"I'm sorry Ava, but you're here now." I said and a smile spread across my face. She laughed and pulled me into another hug. We chatted for a while about her trip to Hawaii.

Sooner than I had hoped the bell rang which meant my life was about to start. I grabbed my backpack and searched for my schedule. I always forgot which classes I had so I have to remind myself. I did miss a year of school. . . well not technically I was home schooled. Starting school is hard, but starting a new high school is even harder. A little part of me already knew my mother would still force me to come here. So this high school thing was definitely still new.

I ran my finger over my schedule searching for my first class. Which was math, and honestly I always hated math.

I looked up at the clock on the wall of the large school. Which read 8:25, I was suppose to be in class at 8:30. Without thinking I started running down the hallways not even looking where the hell I was going. Only one thing was on my mind: I was going to be late. And I couldn't be late for my first class on my first day.

Suddenly something stopped me dead in my tracks. It took me a while to process that I just bumped into something. . . better yet someone fairly large. I stood up from the ground while grabbing my books that had just fallen all over the floor. My eyes met Jace Walker's. I recognized him instantly from all the looks I was getting, and I've heard lots about him from Ava. He's all she ever talks about. To be honest it's annoying. The way she described him matched this guy perfectly. He's tall, has short blonde hair, stunning blue eyes, he looked. . . so typical.
