ODD BALL COD BALLS : Nonsense Rhyme

(Numero Tre)

Ever heard of odd ball cod balls?

You've probably heard of odd balls

And perhaps you've read of cod balls

But not likely odd ball cod balls.

Experience taught me over

The years and, if I do forget,

I am always given the gears

That whenever I make cod balls

They always end up as odd balls.

Are you already asking why?

Then please do lend me your patience

And I will most earnestly try

To explain the real difference

Between numbers even and odd

That apply to balls made from cod.

To make cod balls you must first mix goo.

Take flour, stale bread soaked, an egg or two,

Chopped onions, carrots and garlic too.

Then add the cod or they will taste odd.

Roll into balls; they will stick like glue.

Count them in pairs; be sure they're even.

Fry them in oil, they'll taste like heaven.

With eight in a pan, you might taste one.

Make sure it is brown so you know it's done.

When they're all cooked, you'll be surely hooked.

On this batch of seven try a guest.

If they pass the test, simply serve the rest

With fresh greens and on a bed of rice

With a slice of lemon, you'll both say, "Nice."

in memory of her next-door neighbor and friend, a veteran

who suffered from PTSD or depression and sadly took his

own life on Feb. 02, 2017.
