Chapter 38: Double

"Okay, you and Yuzuru are going to date night with Miki and I, right?" Javier asks Yuzuru and I while we're having lunch at the Cricket Club.

"Um..." I say looking over at Yuzuru.

"We would be happy to," Yuzuru responds with a smile.

"Great! I already planned it regardless of what either of you would say anyways," Javier tells us typing away at his phone. He's probably confirming the plans with Miki.

"So you were going to force us on this double date no matter what?" I question Javier, squinting my eyes at the Spaniard.

"Oh yeah," Javier replies giving me a cheeky smile.

"Ugh. So what are we going to do?"

"Laser tag!"

"What's laser tag?" Yuzuru asks in confusion.

"It's where you shoot laser lights at your friend's in a dark place lit with black lights."

"I think that sounds like fun," I say excitedly. Javier smiles gratefully at me as Yuzuru just nods his head.

"Javier! I'm so going to get you!" I yell at the Spanish skater as he hides from me in the laser tag arena.

Yuzuru and I have been placed on the opposite team from Miki and Javier and Javier keeps tagging me out. I lost Yuzuru after the start of the second game, which we are still in. We paid for three games. The first game was fine since we were all on the same team. But being separated has made us more competitive and I keep getting tagged out by Javier.

"Psst. Mai, come here," I hear a voice calls out to me as I round a corner. I look behind me to see Yuzuru in a little hole in the wall.

"Hey Yuzu," I greet him as softly as I can as this place is quite loud. "Is the where you have been hiding?"

"Yes. Always getting people who pass by."

"You're a sneaky one, Yuzu. Can you help me get Javier? He keeps tagging me."

"Okay."

With that, Yuzuru and I snuck around the arena to find Javier. We see him off in the distance. We make the plan to get him from two directions so that he won't see us coming. I camp out at a higher location while Yuzuru stays under him. For the rest of the game, we keep tagging Javier. At one point, Javier stops trying to find out who is tagging him and just allows himself to get tagged. At the end of the game, we find Miki and Javier together with Javier having a huge pout on his face. Yuzuru and I look at each other and start laughing. Javier looks at us and realize we were the ones tagging him and yells at us.

Third game goes fine because we all end up on the same team. After laser tag, we grad dinner at a local diner. Yuzuru and I sit across from Miki and Javier. We order our food and drinks and start having a conversation.

"So Yuzuru, remember what you told me about the kind of girls you want to date?" Javier brings up as casual as he can. But I can feel an ulterior motive behind his words.

"What did I say?" Yuzuru asks in a confused tone.

"You don't remember? Well, I'll fresh your mind for you. You said you only want to date a skater. Because only she would be able to understand your world. And Marie didn't fit that mold."

"I didn't know you had a type," I muse at Yuzuru with smirk.

"Um..."

Yuzuru looks like a deer caught in headlights. I giggle at him. I grab his hand and hold him in mine. Yuzuru's ears become red and I can tell he's a bit embarrassed.

"It's okay, Yuzu," I assure him. "I had a type too. But that doesn't mean I don't like the guy you are."

"I like the girl you are. I'm kind of glad you aren't a skater. Then we would have too much in common," Yuzuru admits earnestly.

"And what was the point of bringing that up, Javi?" Miki asks her boyfriend with an accusing tone.

"I just wanted to embarrass my good friend after sneak attacking me at laser tag with Marie. No harm to them."

I roll my eyes at Javier, but laugh. I kiss Yuzuru on the cheek as his ears become more red. Miki awes at us while Javier laughs. Soon we get out food and begin eating. We make small talk while eating. Javier continues to tease Yuzuru while I chat with Miki about various things. I'm able to communicate with her in Japanese, which causes Javier to pout and ask what we are saying. I ask her about how she deals with Javier's childish behavior and she tells me that it's part of his charm. I tell her that that's how I feel about Yuzuru when he is childish with me. We bond over the fact that we are dating two large children. Yuzuru overhears us and pouts along with Javier, causing us to laugh at our big babies. I'm glad I get along so well with Miki as this is my first time being around her, but I've heard a lot of her from Javier. We end the night after we eat. Yuzuru takes me back home while Javier takes Miki back home. I make sure to trade numbers with Miki as I'm sure we'll have more double dates since this one went so well. As a non-skater, I don't really feel left out from the three well-known skaters. I'm glad that I can freely hang out with them with feeling weird. In a way, I'm glad Yuzuru didn't stick to his type.
