"Is it secure?"
"Yes but, ... are you sure this is gonna work?" Asked the Hyuuga elder.
"Of course, the fire temple experiment was a success."
"That boy nearly killed everyone and destroyed the entire temple!"
"That's what the curse mark is for. besides, you know full well that the nature of this experiment requires some risk. We also have Orochimaru working on this to raise our chances of success."
"I thought he was denounced as a missing nin. He committed some pretty serious crimes against the village."
"Officially, that is the case but unofficially he works for the Root and his crimes aren't any worse than what we're about to do."
The hyuuga elder remained silent at that.
"What?! Are you getting cold feet now? You didn't have any problem with giving your grandson the curse mark and sending your son off to die."
"It's because of that detestable Kumogakure that my son had to die and the whole reason we're doing this! What we're about to do Is for the good of the village." He said, sounding slightly as if it was himself he was trying to convince.
"Hmm, no mention of the curse mark on your grandson but, no matter, this is all for the good of the village."
"Do you have a method for extracting the Niibi chakra from, what was her name?"
"Unimportant, Orochimaru is working on it, we have a seal ready for your girl after you place the curse mark on her as well."
"She's not mine! She's the daughter of that clan exile!"
"I was under the impression Naichigo casted his name off willingly in order to marry above his station."
"All branch members must have the curse mark in order to protect the kekke genkai. Something my son is dying for. She can be no exception or else his death will be in vain!" The hyuga elder said vehemently.
"Are you sure you will be able to control the Niibi chakra in the girls body through the curse mark?"
"Yes," he said calmer, "Once it's activated, the curse mark will immobilize and cause intense pain to her. She will not be able to harm us, Danzo."
And so the two finalized the details of the mission but, what the hyuga elder failed to consider was that perhaps it was his brother Hizashi decided to die for, and not his eyes.

Shikanai didn't fully understand what was going on. Soren was away and would be for awhile to train a new flock of future ninja birds, so she couldn't ask him. all she new was that Neji, the friend she had made after her birthday a few months ago was asleep on her bed with red stains under each eye and a cloth covering his forehead. She had kept regular meetings with all her friends. Sometimes she met all of them at the same time, sometimes individually, and sometimes in small groups. But she had not made it to the sleepover stage with any of them yet. Well, except with Naru and her cousin. Was she at the sleepover stage with Neji now? Should she wake him up so they could do some sleepover activities? What are sleepover activities? What were those red stains under his eyes? Why was he wearing a headband on his forehead like a ninja's forehead protector? Was he playing ninja earlier? Without her!? Before she could continue any further ponderings her father entered her room.
"Let him sleep Shikanai, he's had a rough time lately and he's going to need you to help him through it. Can you do that Shikanai?" He said with unusually sad eyes.
"Hai." She said. Shikanai wasn't sure if she ever saw her father sad before. He was excitable and sometimes became comically angry, but never sad. He smiled gratefully at her still with those eyes, and left. Shikanai, now alone with the sleeping Neji, decided the only thing she could do now was sleep too. So she climbed into her bed and layed down next to him. He turned to her and started cuddling, clutching at her shirt. She took one of his clenching fists and held it. and for the rest of the night, the two slept peacefully.
