2. My conscience was the one to wake me up this morning.

[ ' Wake up wake up wake up sleepy head. Its your first day of school! ' ]

At that I leapt out of bed and skipped into the kitchen whistling. Charlie had already left for work but he had written a note for me on the fridge: 'good luck Jen' it wrote,

I smiled. Under the note was directions to the school, so I took it off the fridge studying it while I got dressed in my uniform. Albany Prep's uniform was a white button up t- shirt, tucked into the blue and grey plaid skirt with a navy blue cardigan over the top.

I looked in the mirror.

Huh. Its not that bad. I grabbed a brush and yanked it through my hair twice before straightening then curling it. I had naturally dark brown hair.. the chocolate brown all girls die for. i never wear makeup. I don't need it, my eyelashes pitch black anyway.

I paused. I glanced at my feet. My toes wriggled in front of me. What shoes do I wear?

I went back to my room and read the uniform sheet dad had given me.

'Any shoes'

I smiled again. Yes! I grabbed my favourite pair of black strappy heels from my suitcase and slipped them on. They made my legs look long and skinny. Wow, thats a first. They are definitely my new school shoes. I grabbed my Prada backpack (something I could NOT sell at home) and headed down my street. The map said it was a nice 15 minute walk so I took out my ipod and popped my ear phones in.

I looked at my watch. 8:56am. Good, that left four minutes for me to go to the office and get my schedule. I stopped in front of the school and looked up. Wow, was all that

came to mind. This place wasn't a school, it was more like a university campus! The

building was all brown brick and shaped like a horseshoe. There was a large car park out

front with a lot of expensive cars in it. Jesus, I didn't know this many people lived in

Albany. There was a large clock on the front of the building with a huge white sign

writing 'ALBANY PREPOTORY SCHOOL'. I grinned and ran up the steps to the main doors, pushing them open to find a large courtyard in the middle, surrounded by corridors and classrooms. Wow this place reminded me of Hogwarts! I headed right,

following a crowd of girls. I heard one say she was going to Central O. I'm guessing thats the office? I followed her through a large glass door into a room with a secretary.

I went to the lady and smiled. She looked up at me from her computer and grinned.

She was young. Mid 20's maybe? She had short red hair that bounced when she moved

and square rimmed glasses. She was pretty.

"Hi, I'm Jennifer Brooks"i stated. She blinked. "Oh, I'm new!"i explained, blood rushing to my cheeks.

"Oh right of course" she said, a real american accent dripping from her words

"We have been expecting a French girl"she noted.

"French Canadian"i corrected her

She looked at me bewildered. "Oh I'm sorry. Here is your schedule and a map, and have a good day"she waved me out. I guess she has a lot of work. I exited the office

and looked around. It was so peaceful. Some kids were sitting in the hallways chatting

quietly, some were in the courtyard on the grass, soaking up the little sun. And some were standing talking to others or doing homework. I wondered if there was a homeroom
