The Transferee

I: PROLOGUE

"Hey, I heard the new guy just arrived in the principal's office"

"Talaga?"

"Yup, and I heard he's very cute"

"Ayiieee. Dapat lang talaga kasi baka matapunan ko talaga siya niya suntok 'pag hindi. Charots"

I arrived in the room to hear the girls' chitchats, napairap nalang ako habang paupo sa aking armchair. That rumor ,"there's a tranfer guy and he's coming today", has been flying around the campus since last week! But no transfer guy ever came.

I was intrigued AT FIRST, because nobody rarely transfers to this school. City Central High School isn't that bad. This school is public but it isn't bad. This school just have a bad reputation. Dahil sa sobrang laki ng campus na ito at public pa, maraming nakakalabas-pasok at hindi masyadong mahigpit ang seguridad kaya may mga gamit na nawawala, mga private accessories and what's worse is pati mga estudyante, nawawala. The worst part, ang iba nawawala, sumasama sa boyfriend at nabuntis.

Not trying to discriminate teenage pregnancy, I'm just stating a fact about our school.

But anyway, ewan ko ba bakit umaasa pa'ng mga babaeng ito sa chismis na iyan.

6::48 pa at naisipan kong pumunta sa canteen at bumili ng Oreo. Hindi ako nakapag-agahan dahil wala na kaming bigas. I forgot to buy some last night.

"Hoy, pogi ng transferee natin. Hottie, bes!"

"Aga-aga, lumalandi ka na naman te"

"Hoy! Bastos mo! Sinasabi ko lang what my heart is saying"

"Talaga, heto burger mo, baka pasmado ka lang"

Rinig ko sa tabi kong mga estudyante na bumibili din.

When it was my turn to be entertained by the lady, "Isang oreo po, please", sabi ko sabay bigay sa pera. Hinanap naman agad ng ale ang oreo which is nasa tapat niya lang. Can't blame her. May edad na siya. Tinuro ko nalang ito para mapabilis na ito at makabalik na ako sa room ko. "Ayun po"

"Gwapo ng transfer guy, babes" sabi ng isang babae habang nakahug sa braso ng lalaking hindi naman kagwapohan. Parang fuckboy. Judgemental ako, noh? At least hindi ako nangba-backstab.

"Bading yun" sabi naman ng lalaki, habang nakalagay lang ang mga kamay sa bulsa niya.

I cringed at thought of him trying to act and look cool in front of his girl. Hindi bagay. Ugh.

Nung binigay na ng ale ang bicuit ko, naglakad na ako patungong room. 6:55 na.

Habang naglalakad ako patungo sa room, sa hallway, "Hot na hot ang bagong lalaki, puta, baka malaglag ang panty ko nito"

"Nakalapit ka ba?!"

"Oo nagkabanggaan nga kami at shet ang bango niya te. Tulong"

This rumor is being said more than usual today.

Sure, naririnig ko naman ito araw-araw sa school but not this often.

Ngayon, parang every minute may nagchichikahan about niyan. At take note, lahat ng nakakasalubungan ko sa hall ay iyan parin ang topic. Baka nga nandito na siya.

Nah.

Not interested.

Nakarating na ako sa room. 6:59 na. Wala pa si ma'am.

I tore the sachet open and took a bite on my oreo. Sarap.

After I finshed my biscuit, saktong dumating si ma'am.

"Good morning, class!"

Tumayo kami at nag-greet sa kanya, sabay-sabay.

"Good morning, Ms. Enriquez and mabuhay!"

Pansin ko yata parang sobrang saya ni ma'am ngayon. Laki ng ngiti niya. Abot tainga. Kakatandaan ko, palagi 'yang nakasimangot. 'Di ko alam kung dahil sa stress 'yan o baka dahil malapit na siyang mag 40 pero wala parin siyang asawa. Pero ngayon, happy and blooming.

"Ansaya mo yata ma'am?" tanong ni Jericho, na nasa gilid ko. 'Kala ko ako lang nakapansin.

"That is because I've got a good news for you, my children" she said as she popped that cute dimples out. Cutie ni ma'am.

Judging from the shrilling and cheering from the class, they seem to be excited and interested. Habang ako, intrigued din. Medyo. Just a little.

If you were under the advisory of Ms. Enriquez, you definitely will get excited because hearing a good news from her is a very rare thing. Very rare.

"I hope it's not a surprise test!", sigaw ng isang kaklase ko sa likod.

That made the crowd laugh. Not me. I don't appreciate jokes about exams.

"Class ,settle down" she said, with a tone showing a hint of annoyance. Everyone emmediately shut their loud mouths up. Trust me, you don't want Ms. Enriquez to get mad.

"I have someone you need to meet. Our new transfer student" just with that, almost all of the class yelled with all their hearts.

Half of the class are girls and and almost half of the class are men with women hearts.

I just sat here, with a poker face.

1st section students should not act this way. They should maintain a calm and sober atmosphere in the class. Not a very loud atmosphere causing a ruckus.

Pero still, hindi ako makapaniwala na nandito na nga ang transfer student at dito pa siya sa class namin mapapadpad tho.

Sa pag pasok niya, lalong mas lumakas ang hiyawan ng mga kaklase ko. Tinakpan ko nalang ang tenga ko. Grabe naman. Parang hindi 1st section.

Well, actually, hindi naman nakakapagtataka dahil, kung ikukumpara mo siya sa lahat ng mga kaklase kong lalaki, siya lang naman talaga ang gwapo. Ers.

Pumasok siya with a smile, showing his two dimples.

Grabe. Sumasakit na ang tenga ko sa hiyawan nila.

Biglang hinampas ni Ms. Enriquez ang kanyang kamay sa board nang napakalakas. For no more than a second, everyone went mute. The transferee was shocked.

Ms. Enriquez glared at us for a sec. Then, binaling niya ang atensyon niya sa lalaking shocked parin, "you can now introduce yourself, Mr. Bailey"

Umiling nalang siya at humarap sa amin. Ngumiti siya ulit.

Ayan. Nagsisimula na naman silang mag-ingay. You know that little voice that comes out of you when you feel giddy that sounds like a puppy? That is exactly how they sound right now.

"Hey guys. I'm Austin Art Bailey. You can call me Art for short. 17 years living and existing" , he said, "I also fight for chivalry and put ladies first above anything else"

I don't know if I saw the right thing or if my eyes just played a brief trick on me. I don't even know if I should feel calm, happy or anxious.

But after he said that, our eyes met and

He winked at me.
