Brains. That's what the voice was--wait. In zombie movies, don't zombies always say that? What? But zombies aren't real! Or at least I didn't think they were.
"J-John? Hello?" I whimpered desperately, tears coming to my eyes from fear.
I glanced around quickly every once in a while, seeing nothing, no more rustling. Until I suddenly saw a black figure lunging out from behind me, going straight for me. I elbowed them in the ribs while they were in mid flight, making them hit the ground with a sickening crack. I jammed my knee into their solar plexus, hitting all the air out of their body as I rested my knee there, my other knee on the ground.
I looked at who it was. "DAMMIT LENNON!" I screamed, furiously getting off of him, kicking him in the side, and walking in search of the plane again.
I heard some wheezing and coughing, that would be John, still trying to catch his breath. But then again... I turned around and sprinted to where John was, seeing another man sneaking up on him from behind, except this man was a pale, grey/green colour. I ran at the man, taking my sword and stabbing him through the neck. I pulled out the sword, leaving him on the ground, but he got back up. Just then I realised what he was. A zombie. I only knew a couple things about zombies, but I knew you had to kill their brain stem. I sliced directly through the zombies neck, and it started squirting blood everywhere and blood was pooling under it as it fell to the ground. I was sickened, but it's what had to happen.
I kneeled next to John, feeling around his legs and ribs and arms to see if I had accidentally broken anything. I got to the back of his ribs, and he groaned in pain when I touched them. I better not have broken his ribs. I turned him over, gently running my fingers over the same spot. No breaks. That means I bruised it, thank god.
John groaned again, and I could tell he was in a lot more pain than he was showing. "S-Stop it Prudence. That hurts." he moaned.
"Sorry, John. I just need to know how bad you're hurt." I said, going to his legs.
"My leg hurts." John whined.
"You strained and sprained your knee. And your ankle's broken." I noticed his calf had bent back and landed under his thigh.
There were a couple more rustles as John moaned. And soon, John and I were surrounded by a circle of zombies. I knew John couldn't do anything, and this scared me. My heart started pumping faster and my breathing was shaky. Adrenaline rush.
I ran at the zombies, swinging my sword from side to side, not caring what I hit.
By the time I was tired, little bits of zombies and their innards lay everywhere. I sighed, walking over to John, who was now asleep. I climbed the tree above him, seeing bananas and oranges in the surrounding trees. I filled my backpack, sliding down and jumping before I hit John.
I brushed some hair out of his face. "Wake up Johnny. We need to get back to the beach." I whispered.
John stirred and moaned, opening his eyes.
I helped him up onto one leg, putting my arm around him as he put an arm on my shoulders. We walked/hopped to the beach that way, and it seemed to take less time then I had taken to get there. I'm with a crippled person, and it takes less time? Man, I must walk slowwww.
When we got back to camp, Ringo came running up to meet us. "What happened to John?" he asked.
"I did." I muttered, sitting John down so he was leaning against a boulder sized rock.
"What?! You did that?" Ringo was horrified as he pointed to John.
"Yes, I kept hearing rustling and a mutter of the word 'brains' and then he lunged at me from behind, so I elbowed him in the ribs in mid air, and kneed him in the solar plexus. His calf landed under his thigh, and I kicked him in the ribs. Okay?" I explained as I walked to a nearby bush of bamboo and chopped some down with my sword.
