I lie on my back, facing the cold winter night. The numbing cold of the snow below me stung only for a moment. I stare blankly at the surrounding darkness, snowflake after snowflake piling over my tan jacket.

Something about the snow did not bother me, and I did not bother with brushing them off, no matter how high they piled.

I was content with being in the snow. I was in a place I so loved... but had grown to hate. Where it was, I cannot say. Clouds filled the open air, releasing small creations, glistening like diamonds, into the air.

The only thing clear to see above me was the full moon, illuminating the dark night. A small smile formed at my lips, a light hearted feeling growing in my chest.

I raised a hand into the sky, as if trying to grasp at the moon itself. A shaky breath left my body, the familiar form of mist clouding with every exhale. The cold enveloped my body, lulling me into deep sleep.

It was almost as if my eyelids had grown heavy with snow, and the flakes covering me were my blanket. I let my arm fall to my side with a soft sigh.

Small, beautiful crystals formed over my teary eyes. I blinked a few times, clearing my vision. What I saw next came as a surprise. Staring down at me was a man about my age. His bright blue eyes bore into my violet ones. His brow furrowed.

His light blond hair was parted neatly, exception of a cowlick on the side of his head. He had a dark brown bomber jacket over his shoulders and glasses that were almost askew on his face.

Something about him was familiar, but I couldn't quite place where from. All I could think of is that we had known each other well. Those electric blue eyes held familiarity within their exasperated expression. And dare I say caring.

Blinking again, I smiled at him, his expression softening slightly. He let out a laugh, though half way it changed into a sigh. He shook his head slightly.

"Ivan. Come on, get up." He urged. He offered out his hand to me, a childish smile placed on his face as if he weren't so angry with me anymore.

It clicked. Alfred. I knew his name, but from my memory, I did not remember him in the slightest. I attempted to sit up, but the ice clung to me as if I were frozen in place.

"Alfred." I tried to choke out, but my words would not form.

I dug my gloved hands into the cold crystals, clawing at the ice and snow, only sinking in deeper. It was swallowing me.

I tried to cry out -I tried to cry out his name- but the snow filled my lungs. Freezing cold pierced my body, burning and stinging.

I couldn't breathe. I can't breathe. I can't-

As my vision darkened, the last thing I saw was the American. A sickening grin on his face. Why wasn't he doing anything?!

Alfred, help me.

I awoke, a cold sweat covering my body. I could hear my heart beating in my ears as I sat up, breathing heavily.

I let out a choked sob, tears filling my eyes. I wiped them off on my dark grey sleeve, tear stains remaining on my clothing.

I could breathe.

With haste, I pushed the sheets away from my body as I stood, walking towards the window.
It hadn't been so cold when I went to sleep last night, what had changed?

As I pulled back the dark curtains, what I saw caused me to freeze for a moment. My window was opened. I couldn't recall ever opening it the other day, or even yesterday.

How had this happened?

I immediately closed the opening, making sure to lock it. I glanced outside for a moment. Sure enough there was a fresh blanket of snow on the ground.

Picking up my phone, I scanned over several text messages. None of them seemingly important. I read through texts from my sisters, friends, co-workers... But... I couldn't pry my mind off of one thing...

Who was that American?

Who was Alfred?
