It had only been a week and they had achieved world domination. When they had arrived in India we had thought unicorns were real or that they were new house pets, but that was before they attacked. Their lasers blasted everything in sight, and all the buildings and people were turned to ashes or smoke. Armies tried to combat them, thinking of them as pests, but they were proven wrong as they joined those attacked first. By the second day they had come, they had already conquered all of Asia, and all of Russia. More militaries tried to combat them, and France went far enough to try and bomb them, but the armies were killed and the invaders shot down the plane holding the bomb. More and more attacks occurred until today, when they had achieved total domination. Few were alive, most people had passed away or by now were alone joining them.
Luckily, I had survived along with four kids in my neighborhood who had found out we were all alive and had met up at my house, and my cat. I found a letter from my now dead father, that talked about an army base in California that would be safe to go to, since radar couldn't find it and it's walls blocked heat vision. Now that my friends and I have decided they only way of survival may be to get their, we begin our journey at dawn tomorrow. Who knew the end of the world would come from unikitties?
"Do we take the cat?" I asked everyone.
"I don't think we should," Carmen replied,"she would take extra food and we might accidentally shoot her thinking she's one of them."
"But look at her face," I pleaded as I showed her my terrified black cat named Shadow, "she would die without us!"
"She would only be a drag! Alright everyone, let's vote," and 3 hands shot into the air,"see? Look, I know it may be hard, but it's for the greater good that we leave her here. I'm sorry Daja."
"Well, I know this is a sad moment and all but it's 8:30 and dawn was an hour ago" a voice said from behind me,"I'd rather not die staying here."
"Ok fine Jake, but show a little respect for her. She is leaving behind the only member of her family she has left," Jasmine said,"Also, I know that all of your family died and you deserve extra respect, and that happened to all of us as well so we all are the same right now."
"LET'S GO!" Jake yelled.
"Quiet!" Carmen hushed him."You may have just told the unikitties exactly where we were!"
We waited in silence for about 10 minutes, then looked and nodded at each other. With tears in my eyes, we began to walk. Our journey had begun.
We grabbed our bags on the way out the door and I sent one last glance at Shadow. Silence filled our walk as we knew we were leaving everything behind, except for each other. Our lives were over, and we all knew it. Now, we are no longer middle school kids. We are some of the few survivors of the human race. Soon, we may be the only. We continued to walk in silence.
"Dang, how long does it take to get from Nevada to California?" Jake said, breaking the silence.
"We've only gone ten miles," Carmen informed,"so we have 92 miles left."
"Well let's run! I'd rather get to safety sooner rather than later," Jake said as he sprinted ahead, "so let's GO."
"Wait!" I yelled as I spotted fire just ahead of him.
"HELP!" He screamed. I immediately realized that unikitties sat around the fire. There were five of them around it, and . Should I run? Should I stay? What should I do? As I looked at the others' faces, I could see the same fear in their eyes. Simultaneously we looked at him and saw him being put in a cage and the unikitties spotting us. They began to charge at us, but suddenly and black blur bolted out of the bushes next to the road tackled the leading unikitty. The black blur and the leading unikitty faced each other in a showdown while the other unikitties kept running at us. Almost instantly, the blur had beaten the unikitty and yowled at the unikitties coming at us. Silence met the blur's yowl as the unikitties a realized what had happened and sprinted to the bushes in fear. The blur slowly walked towards us and I realized it was an animal, probably a cat. Wait.... Shadow? "Shadow?!" I called, and the cat responded with a mew, then ran over to us.
"Is that really your cat?" Jasmine asked. "It could be any stray black cat."
"Would any stray cat care if we were getting attacked, be smart enough to attack the leading unikitty, then be able to beat it? Well, any stray cat might be able to do the last two, but only Shadow would care if we lived or died," I said, "and if you start on about how she got here, she probably followed us... We were pretty loud, even if we were trying to be stealthy."
Suddenly, a scream came from down the road. Jake! We were focusing on Shadow and forgot about him! I ran his direction as fast as I could, but I couldn't get there before in time. The cage just vanished in a bright flash. He was gone. And it was all my fault. I felt the first tear fall.
"It's all your fault!" Jasmine was screaming at my face. I had never seen this side of her, mainly because I had never messed up this bad. . "He's gone just because you were too busy with your CAT!"
"Jasmine...." Carmen said quietly from behind me.
"Stay out of this! JAKE IS GONE AND IT'S ALL HER FAULT!" Jasmine shrieked in her face. "He's GONE FOREVER! For... For... Forever..." She sobbed loudly. I suddenly remembered that she was his closest friend.
