When Gene Wilder was offered the role as Willy Wonka in the original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory he said he would take it under one condition; that he would do a somersault after faking a limp (which he did when he first meets the winners of the golden ticket contest). Gene said that this would show the audience that Willy Wonka was full of all sorts of surprises and that anything could happen.
