Today was the day one of us residents got to do our first solo surgery. We had the interns watching to see if they could read Dr. Webber's lips when him and the attendings were voting on who got to do the surgery.
"He said Karev!" One of the interns said bursting into the locker room.
"Are you sure?" I asked.
"Yeah I think so" the intern replied.
"You think so? No that's not you being sure get out of here" Alex snapped and the intern left.
A few minutes later another intern came running through the door.
"He said Stevens!" The intern said and Izzie's face lit up.
"Which one is it stupid Me or Stevens?" Alex said clearly annoyed.
The intern left and a few more minutes later another one came in.
"He said Grey!" The intern said and I just shook my head.
"You guys are useless" I said then Lexie came running in.
She was the only intern I trusted mostly because she's my best friend but she's also the smartest intern.
"The chiefs ready to announce who's doing the surgery" Lexie said and we all raced out of the room down the hall to meet the chief.
"The first solo surgery will take place tonight it's a below the knee amputation for the first time ever every attending picked the same person Dr. Yang but since Dr. Yang is out of the running she is going to pick the winner instead she will post her decision at 4 pm on the O.R board and since all the interns are banned from the O.R whoever Yang picks will get to chose a fellow resident to scrub in with them" Dr. Webber said then walked off leaving everyone shocked.
I already knew Cristina would pick Meredith and then Meredith would chose me to scrub in so I'm not too worried about it. I didn't want to follow Yang around begging for the surgery like everyone else was so I went down to plastics hoping Mark would have something for me. I saw him at the main desk talking to Lexie so I decided I'd get in on the conversation and hopefully be able to scrub in.
"Dr. Sloan I heard that you're performing a hypopharynx reconstruction today" I said.
"Yes I am I'm gonna make a woman speak again" He replied.
"I read up on the surgery-"
"You read up on my surgery?" Mark asked.
"Yes of course I did I read up on all of your surgeries and since it's your first time performing it I thought you might need an extra set of hands" I said with a small smile and a flirty nice voice.
I use that voice and smile all the time on people and I always get what I want.
"Sure you can join Dr. Grey and me" Mark replied and I gave him a weird look.
"Dr. Grey who's banded from the O.R?" I said.
"She's on coffee duty speaking of coffee grey go get us some" Mark said and Lexie nodded then walked off.
"Was someone jealous that someone else was gonna be with me today?" Mark said with a smirk and I rolled my eyes.
"Not at all" I replied and he let out a small laugh.
"Do you need to read the chart so you can learn about the patient?" Mark asked.
"Well I might of already read the chart" I said biting my bottom lip.
"You read it before you even asked me?" Mark asked.
"I knew once I asked you that you'd say yes so I was just getting prepared" I replied.
"How'd you know I'd say yes?" He asked.
"Because you always say yes to me" I said with a smile.
"I guess that's true" Mark said with a shrug.
"I'm gonna go find Lexie I'll see you during our surgery" I said then walked away.
I found Lexie down in the cafe getting coffee still.
"Hey Lex sorry about the whole calling you out for being banded from the O.R thing" I said.
"It's okay you weren't wrong I'm happy for you getting to be apart of the surgery and getting closer to Sloan" Lexie said.
"You're happy I'm getting closer to Sloan?" I asked.
"Yes and he's happy about it too" she said.
"What? How do you know?" I asked curiously.
"Don't tell me you haven't noticed how much he flirts with you and the way he gives you whatever you want he likes you Madi" Lexie said and I felt myself start to blush.
"Do you really think so?" I asked.
"I know so and I know you like him too" Lexie said with a smirk.
"Meredith and Derek told him to stay away from me though" I whined.
"So what? Meredith and Derek don't control you do what's gonna make you happy Mads" Lexie said and I gave her a hug.
"You're the best, best friend I love you Lex" I said.
"I love you too Madi now go do that surgery and then go do something about Mark" Lexie said and we broke apart and I ran off to the O.R
"Good job in there Avery" Mark said as we both walked out of the O.R
"Thank for letting me scrub in Dr. Sloan " I said giving him a smile then walked off.
It was a few minutes before 4:00 so I made my way to the O.R board I'm excited that Meredith and I will be doing the surgery. Everyone gathered around the O.R board area and we watched as Cristina began to write on it. She chose Alex. I can't believe she chose Alex because we all know he's gonna pick Izzie just because they're dating. I think that was such a crappy choice but I guess there's nothing I can do to change it. My shift was over anyway so I was gonna go and make my move on Mark.
I got back to Meredith's and got in a cute outfit and then went over to Mark's. I knocked on the door and he looked very surprised to see me.
"Well are you just gonna stand there or are you gonna invite me in?" I asked raising an eyebrow.
"Uh yeah come in" Mark said and I walked in.
"What are you doing here?" He asked.
"You know why I'm here you've known for weeks and I'm ready" I said and began to take off my clothes.
"Madison we can't" He said but I still continued to undress.
"Yes we can there's no one here to stop us you kissed me before you can easily do it again" I said and was now just in my bra and underwear and all Mark did was look at me.
"I made a promise I can't do it" He said.
"Yes you can do it" I said and he stood there not doing anything.
He still just stood there not saying a word.
"Well are you just gonna stand there and stare or are you gonna kiss me?" I asked and Mark pulled me close and kissed me.
