Nada - Chapter Three

Start from the beginning

The flashback ended abruptly as the ground shook with intensity as D slammed Fire Fang, face first into the ground. It was all over in the blink of an eye. Trish held my arm as I tried to approach D, but I just brushed it aside so that I could get to D. My heart jumped as I found D already standing in front of me. I looked into his eyes which was filled with smoldering rage and burning fury moments ago, now replaced with absolute calmness and serenity. "Are you okay? Are you hurt?" He asked me as he held my shaking hands. "I... I... uhm... I-I'm okay." I stuttered even though I tried my best speaking clearly and calmly. 'That was embarrassing. >___< 'I thought to myself as he smiled at me. "I'm so glad that you're okay," he whispered to me as he let out a sigh of relief while hugging me. 'H-He's so warm! ^ ~ ^' I thought to my red flush faced self as he held me tightly.

Suddenly, a flash of red grazed my leg and I found myself screaming on the ground in pain. Blood gushed from my leg as sweat and tears rolled down my face. I looked into D's eyes, and I blacked out.

Daren's Perspective

"It's over. It's finally over." I said to myself as I hugged her tight. But then, I realized that I spoke too soon. A flash of scorching red, streams of tears flowing down her face as she screamed in pain. I couldn't bear to see her in pain like this. So I entered her mind by looking into her eyes, and I made her black out.

I set her down gently, as I wiped the tears from her eyes. I let out a breath of exasperation as I turned around to face Maximillian. He's bloodied and beaten to a pulp. His face is swollen with one eye open. His knees were shaking, and was barely even able to stand as he tried walking over to me. He fell and I managed to catch him before he smacked his face on the ground. He is breathing heavily as if every motion saps the living hell out of him.

"Stop this Max. You know that you won't win this. Just give up," I said to him as I braced him up on my shoulder. "You know damned well that I can't do that, Daren. I have to because I've no other choice." I was silenced by what he said, as he sat down and exhaled with exhaustion. 'Who can blame him? We're both tired, and in pain.'

"So end my pain," He exclaimed as he gave me his gun. "You're the only one who can." He looked at me as if he was pleading for his quick and bitter end. That burning fire in his eyes, he really wants to go through with this. He really wants me to kill him. I let out a sigh, pointed the gun at him and said, "I'm sorry it had to end this way." He smiled and said, "It is okay. It's better this way. That way I won't have to..." He stopped as I fired the gun at his head. The gun disintegrated in my hands as Maximillian started to fade away. The rain poured hard as I closed my eyes as I held Max's pendant in my hand. 'God damn it. How many more people should I kill until we're left alone to live in peace?' I thought to myself as I trudged up the muddy surface.

And amidst the rain, I saw a figure next to Georgina, then suddenly the rain stopped. It wasn't the rain that stopped pouring, but time. Time was at a standstill as I approached the figure looking over Trish and G. This figure seemed like it was human, but it had no face. Then suddenly, it faced me. "This will never end," it said to me without hesitation. "What do you mean by that?" I asked it in confusion. "Don't act like you don't know what I'm talking about," it exclaimed with a tone of seriousness. "You know the truth and yet you still deny it. Why do you torment yourself like this Daren?"

"I don't know. It's just.... I wanted so much more from this. It all seemed perfect. I can do anything. Everything." "And yet, you still can't face the fact that all of this is an illusion. A lie." "I KNOW THAT ALL OF THIS IS JUST AN ILLUSION!! BUT CAN'T I JUST BE HAPPY JUST EVEN FOR A LITTLE BIT?! IS THAT SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND?!" "No. It isn't hard to understand. But at what cost? How much are you willing to pay for your happiness? How much are you willing to suffer just to live a life that isn't even real?" "For as long as I have to." You can't keep doing this to yourself. You can't keep doing this, to us." I looked at the figure and I stumbled over, when I saw myself. I was crying. "You have to make a choice, Daren. We have to make a choice." I said as I hugged myself.
