After All We've Been Through (Steve x reader)

   "Why are you on this mission?" Sharon looks like she might burst a blood vessel, when James speaks.

   "Until Coulson thinks you're mentally stable enough to handle it, I'm your S.O."

   That's totally not insulting!

   Whatever Sharon was to Steve, she is the exact opposite to James.

   Come on! I only beat you up one time!

   The motor of the S.H.I.E.L.D plane drones over anymore he might have said.

   The pilot gives James an apologetic shrug and draws his finger across his throat.

   Coulson had all these rendezvous they had to make before actually getting into the field.

   First stop, Wakanda, at the dead of night, with a very scary guy in a panther suit.

   The plane touches down and apprehension creeps up James neck.

   "Welcome to Wakanda, Agent 13" The king's voice clips

   "I'm here too" James steps out from behind her making  T'challa's people jump and take up a defensive position around their king.

   "Welcome, Mr. Barnes" T'challa's voice has an edge that James understands is for him "Are you here to see Captain Rodgers?"

   James looks at Sharon in shock "Steve is here?"

   The blond woman shakes her head, her face emotionless "I didn't know."

   "Can I see him?"

   "We're here in mission for Agent Coulson" Sharon interrupts him "Can we meet privately?"

   "But I-" James protests,  but T'challa answers.

    "My chambers are this way, and James, both he an Y/N are sleeping. I'm afraid it's been a rough week for both."

   James swallows hard "Ok.. That's alright, I guess."

   It's easy for Sharon to pick up on her partner's despondence, but a combination of guilt and pride keeps her mouth shut.

   He'll be alright.

   Both She and T'challa know Steve's reappearing rattles him.

   She watches as James wanders the hall behind them staring off into nothingness.

   He's like the Winter Soldier all over again...mindlessly following orders.

   When James trails far enough behind to give them privacy, the King of Wakanda eyes his guest "How long are you going to hold him?"

   Sharon's jaw pulses slightly "He is on a mission, m'lord. Knowing Steve is here is a distraction James doesn't need."

   T'challa's deep brown eyes warm "I beg to differ. There's something the sight of a familiar face can do, that all the work ethic in the world cannot."

   "Will you let him see the Captain?" The blond woman barely controls the anger in her voice.

   "Would I suggest it if I wouldn't?" T'challa meets her challenge with equal edge.

   Sighing, Sharon gives in "This is your kingdom, m'lord."

   "James" T'challa speaks over her and addresses the brooding man "The Captain and Y/N's quarters are down this hall. But there are some things you should know."

  "I'm listening" James frowns slightly.

   "The Captain retirned with a injury from your last mission. The extent of the damage was total amnesia. He doesn't recall anything about you or the team and his mental capacity is that of a ten year old."
